Be excellent to each other!

BTW When I say Trained #MOLE, I mean generative models, what the hype bubble calls "AI", see my blog post;

  • Seems I was going off half-cocked, out of an overabundance of caution. #MeaCulpa. I thought it would be worse if I ignored my strypey-senses tingling and said nothing, then it turned out it was compromised.

    We need to be cautious in this age of copious vibe coding;

    https://forum.f-droid.org/t/f-droid-policy-on-libre-ai/

    I do think @fdroid crew need to do due diligence when apps appear to be abandoned, then revived. They probably do, but any links to policies and processes on this would be a great way to put my mind at rest.

  • BTW @rimu, my apologies again for unloading on you with both barrels last night. I stand by my objection to the way Stanton was being dogpiled, but in hindsight I was just as merciless to you as I saw people being to him. Which was not only hypocritical, but *not* good de-escalation on my part, quite the opposite.

    I've got some intense stuff going on of late, and struggling with sleep dep. But that's my problem and my responsibility, not yours, or anyone else's. I hope you can accept my apology

  • @artyom> Cool, I just installed a new version of CoMaps!

    This strikes me as a chatbot style reply, chatty and positive, but completely out of context. Your profile doesn't flag you as a bot, which is the convention in the fediverse.

    If you are a bot, your operator needs to state that clearly in your profile, or will fall foul of @rimu. Who takes a dim view of such things, and rightly so.

    If you are a human, context is king! Love your enthusiasm, but might have been better as its own post ; )

  • @snek_boi> [post title] appears truncated.

    I need to remember when posting from Mastodon that the first Y characters of my post are used by @LemmyDev communities as the post title : P Truth is, many people won't even know they are also posting to the threadiverse.

    I get that this title automation is better than no title. But are post titles editable by community mods, so they can remove truncated text and clarify as needed? If not, that might be a good feature.

  • @snek_boi> So that your title is read easily, you may consider editing it

    Thanks for pulling me up on that, done. Also noted Linux Walt's clarification, based on the version on his device. Hopefully you can see my reply to him.

  • F-Droid @lemmy.ml

    #AnySoftKeyboard, installed from #FDroid, asks for access to Contacts. Was it compromised? (EDIT: Unlikely)

  • @fullsquare This talking point is designed for replying to someone who denies that there was any resourcing of Islamist groups by the Iranian regime. So not really a suitable response to what I said. Which is that the Anti-Americanism precedes Iranian funding, both were precipitated by decades of US military adventurism in the region.

    If you want to understand the genesis of militant Islamism, see the Adam Curtis documentary The Power of Nightmares. Or maybe read this;

    https://meaningness.com/fundamentalism-countercultural-modernism

  • @fullsquare> a segment of that anti-americanism was funded by sales of iranian oil. not all of course, but houthis wouldn’t be a thing without it, or large parts of hezbollah

    This is a bit like saying certain human rights orgs only exist because Soros funds them via OSF, or that the Hong Kong protests only happened because of NED/ OTF funding. In all these cases I suspect authentic movements are funded when their activities happen to align with funders' current goals.

    @aninjury2all @Ardubal

  • @RecursiveParadox> butter chicken is indigenous but tikka masala is the BIR style dish

    Wikipedia agrees with you. I'm convinced. Who knew? I guess maybe the names confused the people who told me that. A name like "tikka masala" sounds traditional, while I can't think of anything more anglophone sounding than "butter chicken" ; )

  • @fell> Turns out Honey Chicken is a purely Australian invention

    Like butter chicken from Indian restaurants ... in the anglophone world only, apparently. What is with us anglophones and our propensity for consuming jungle fowl in yellowish fluids?

    @FoxtrotDeltaTango

  • @Chemo> Why do they turn Federation into a dystopia?

    I had the same niggle, but I'm hoping it's a way of setting up a redemption arc.

    Like when they replaced Captain Georgiou with Emperor Georgiou. She had to learn the value of the Federation's way of doing things. But they also learned a thing or 2 from her.

  • @LambdaRX> You could try to edit your post, that the title for lemmy is in the first line ended by a newline (enter), and the body is in the next lines

    Done. Did this work?

  • @LambdaRX> Lemmy automatically creates it from the post body

    I'll try to remember that time I @mention a Lemmy group, but is it possible for a mod in a Lemmy community to change the title as it appears there, so it makes sense?

    @Undertaker

  • F-Droid @lemmy.ml

    BandCamp not working in NewPipe/ PipePipe

  • @sga> there is an option to use syncthing for syncing to other devices

    Intriguing, is this built into the app itself? I gave SyncThing a solid try and it failed on me pretty badly, in a number of ways. Also didn't the mobile app get abandoned some time ago?

    I'll install it and kick the tires at least.

    > the notes files are plain text

    That's definitely a good feature. Getting this from my existing notes app requires a manual export.

  • @sga> fossify apps?

    That was about half of them.

    Mental note: must donate to Team Fossify. I'm deeply grateful to them for continuing the Simple Apps as un-enshittified Free Code, and I use heaps of them every day. If they had a notes app (ideally one compatible with NextCloud), I'd use that every day too (hint, hint).

  • F-Droid @lemmy.ml

    Holy shitballs Batman! Half my F-Droid apps have updates tonight. Did something happen that required a bunch of critical updates, or it is just the team getting a bunch of tasks ticked off all

  • @drone509> I had to add it to the default links

    OK, glad that worked for you. I didn't have to do that with PipePipe. Which is a signficant UX improvement, and the main point of the post you replied to : )

  • @drone509> This had always worked for me in Newpipe

    *does a little dance*

    Did the integration with BC links in other apps work as I described using NP?

  • Newpipe @lemmy.ml

    Just tapped on a BandCamp link in a text message (1), and a popup offered to open it in PipePipe, either in the main app or a background player. I chose background player and it's working fine. This

  • F-Droid @lemmy.ml

    I’ve noticed at least one app installed via F-Droid that asked me to opt-in to on-device “AI”. Which made me curious about whether the F-Droid team has formulated a policy on this.

  • @sonalder> Nostr and Fediverse are not incompatible

    True. They're just different models for providing decentralised social services. If there's a social app in F-Droid that can handle Nostr identities as well as ActivityPub accounts, that would fit my needs just as well as a Nostr-only app. In fact, better.

    @frongt

  • @cypherpunks> i see the images in my comment didn’t federate to mastodon

    No, they didn't. Had a look. Nice one 👍👍

    The missing images on my end is something to ask about on SocialHub tomorrow, so the Lemmy and Mastodon teams can debug and fix it. Mastodon posts can include images, so in theory there's no reason it can't be made to work.

  • @cypherpunks@frongt> this is a Lemmy community

    And Lemmy is part of the fediverse. Also, cows are mammals. Did you have a point to make or are we just stating the obvious for the lulz?

  • F-Droid @lemmy.ml

    Hey @rabble, would you and your team at Nos.social be willing to help us get a range of Nostr apps packaged for ?

  • Dull Men's Club @lemmy.world

    Today I made toast. I spread it with peanut butter, English Marmite (marketed here as "OurMate"), and an everything butter with a Vogels bread theme. No wait, that was yesterday. And
