I try to contribute to things getting better, with sourced information, OC and polite rational skepticism.Disagreeing with a point ≠ supporting the opposite side, I support rationality.Let's discuss to make things better sustainably.Always happy to question our beliefs.

  • Maybe just unfinished?

  • I don't want to ruin good news, but everyone needs to know that Kobo is owned by the shitty Japanese Amazon equivalent called Rakuten since 2012. So the risk of enshitification is pretty high, why not if the hardware is nice, but try to cut as many software ties as possible.

  • If you care about security and privacy, you need to pay. It's about 5$ a month, it's only way those services can exist without exploiting your data. If you don't mind getting your data vacuumed in exchange for information access, you can use a free one.

  • Yes, VPN services usually have mobile apps, Mullvad for exemple is well respected here.

  • 🇪🇺

  • You can try a VPN too.

  • Maybe country dependant, works fine from Japan.

    Intro:

If you have ever taken old clothes to a recycling bank, be it in the UK or North America, there is a real chance that the garments ended up illegally dumped in a desert in northern Chile.

The South American country is one of the world's biggest importers of used clothing, but items that fail to be resold have for years been simply discarded in big piles out in the barren, bone-dry countryside. In response to a law change, one Chilean company is now moving to tackle the problem.

  • "The day a waning crescent moon eclipsed the sun in my back yard."

  • Or the fossil fuel are not taxed enough, or even not taxed at all like plane fuel. Reducing taxes is reducing the money a country can invest into itself, in this case probably network development, green development support and regulation. This kind of idea is usually supported by capital owners.

  • "Today I learned" is probably appropriate considering you probably just learned about this old news and you want to share it.

Edit: am I talking to a bot?

  • Strawman fallacy, these people do not support the genocide, they support electing the lesser evil.

  • Top picture has as a huge artificial loan and isolated houses with big gardens are not great either. It feels like a very USA centric point of view of what is ecological. People forget or ignore the impact of ground footprint. Turning natural ground into artificialized ground for humans is the first cause of biodiversity loss. It's better to have dense cities with reasonably tall apartment buildings and let nature or sustainable agriculture reclaim the rest. I think that's what solar punk promotes, not the top picture.

  • Whips don't lie

  • Edgy leftist teens in particular

  • The article is from 2017, yet I learned about it yesterday.

  • Gâteau basque and Basque cheesecake are different cakes. The first rather comes from the French part and the second rather comes from the Spanish part (Basque: euskal gazta-tarta, Spanish: tarta de queso vasca).

    Basque cheesecake

Gâteau basque (usually with cream filling, sometimes with local black cherry jam)

If anyone goes to the French Basques country, I highly recommend buying the ones from Maison Gastellou, both the cream version and the cherry version are marvelous.

  • There is the same issue in French that the lack of accent can change the meaning, so the French Academy does recommend putting accents on capitals. https://www.academie-francaise.fr/questions-de-langue#5_strong-em-accentuation-des-majuscules-em-strong

    Newspaper title "UN INTERNE TUE":

    • Un interne tue: medical intern kills
    • Un interne tué: medical intern killed
    • Un interné tue: institutionalized patient kills
    • Un interné tué: institutionalized patient killed
