I try to contribute to things getting better, with sourced information, OC and polite rational skepticism.Disagreeing with a point ≠ supporting the opposite side, I support rationality.Let's discuss to make things better sustainably.Always happy to question our beliefs.

  • Nice, I thought you were still looking.

  • Did you rejoin?

  • My company is big enough to have multiple times my roles and we have lost some of them recently. I definitely don't feel threaten by this lazy recruiter mistake.

  • I'm paid the same as the advertised "up to". We are bleeding people due to RTO so I know they are recruiting for that.

  • I would not say so, quantum physics and Relativity are both physical theories with strong experimental proof in their own domains, very small scales and very big scales. They are both extremely higher on the scale of trustworthy believes than any religion could be. I think most physicists believe quantum physics has solider proof than Relativity thanks to the enormous statistics from experiments that we can control like the LHC. For (General) Relativity, we kind of have to do with what the universe sends us.They are both systems of beliefs, like religions are, but with a much higher level of proof, so physicists have some skeptical faith in both of those theories.

  • Newton's laws were established science for centuries and they were proven to be not as good as Relativity some centuries later. Given that there is some incompatibility between quantum physics and Relativity, and the dark energy/matter mystery, it is likely that the current physics theories are also not completely correct. Even if we solve that, verification will always be limited to a certain degree of precision. So we will never be able to prove that a theory is fully correct, we can only try to prove that it is wrong indefinitely. But we can have a rational belief based on their degree of verification and make bridges, computers and medicine with them.

  • Everything is a belief, but the beliefs can be ranked with rational methods. For exemple, quantum physics is a system of belief of much higher rank than a religion because it has been tested to an incredible level of precision in comparison. Then you can choose where you put the cursor of what you believe in and how much trust you put behind each.

  • Mmm I see you enjoy playing hard mode. Get the skills for a full remote office job with visa suport, then seduce some colleague with your emoji game on Slack.

  • Maybe you can give it a try in real life.

  • If you have a highly desired skill in developed countries, like medecine, engineering, highly skilled technician etc. it's a good way to get a long term visa supported by the hiring organization. Usually those countries will advertise the professions they want next to professional visa procedures. Otherwise you can try to marry someone from there.

  • People don’t want to give up that luxury now that they’ve had it.

Maybe people should also take some responsibility there?

  • For those curious about which distribution because Linux alone does not mean much, from the description:

  • Famine, whoever is in charge of cutting funds for humanitarian projects the USA were supporting and threatening millions of lives.

  • Let's hope my predictions are wrong then. Are you betting on it?

  • Just reminding people Kobo is not just that nice little Canadian tech company anymore, it's part of tech giant. So don't fall for the David and Goliath narrative that is implied here. It's rather third-rate Goliath and Goliath. So take your precautions where you can. I sadly don't have an alternative to suggest.

  • Just not allowed by his organization. Competitive swimmers actually started to use wet suits at some point, but it was deemed too advantageous because it increased floatability and was eventually forbidden.

  • According to the video, it's not allowed by the rules of the organization he records his performances with. Only short swimsuit, swimming goggles and swimming cap allowed. Also forbidden to take a break by grabbing the support boat. He also said he takes ginger tea and a banana every 30 min, because it is the only thing that goes down well for him during prolonged effort.

Software engineering may have been one of the few modern engineering roles that combine both engineering (designing) tasks and technical craftsmanship (coding) tasks. Maybe until LLMs gets perfected.
