  • Specific examples don’t match the best but it made me think of this!

  • And it’s not like those were one-offs, COINTELPRO was crazy in scope and did massive damage beyond just the murders.

It’s not like that’s all in the past either, just look at how the Palestine protests were handled as well as the Floyd protests.

  • Yeah if you’re getting very into the weeds on it Is there some minor difference between how that classless/stateless society operates?

Sure but most of the difference in analysis and conclusions is on how to arrive at the classless/stateless society.

The differences between the vision of classless/stateless societies communists and anarchists have is minor compared to pretty much any other broad 2 political ideologies have as what visions of the perfect society is.

  • Cuba has sent doctors and other medical support to countries of many different ideologies. They would 100% assist an anarchist group if asked and it’s something they could provide.

Currently China and Vietnam are both willing to trade with countries of any ideology.

You’re latching on to a couple examples in the past and saying nothing else can happen besides that. If that’s going to be the extent of your argument no point in continuing this since there’s nothing left to talk about then.

  • There’s some historical examples where that may have been the case but that’s not some universal constant that can’t be changed.

Fundamentally they both want the same thing in the end so disagreements on how you get there can be resolved. If 2 different areas/groups try 2 different paths there’s no reason they can’t work together where mutually beneficial.

Would people have to get over being too overly dogmatic about their way? Yes and that may be difficult but not impossible.

  • Which is the end goal of communists, but you can’t really have a stateless society until all or nearly all countries are socialist unless you’re going the anarchist route.

  • Finally made the switch over to Linux yesterday, kind of cool it was on the anniversary!

  • Someone else will hopefully have more specific details on the situation.

In general the economic situation isn’t great due to the blockade since as an island nation they have to Import anything (like oil) that isn’t a natural resource on the island. Blackouts and other energy issues have been a problem due to that.

Trump recently increased the blockade and I know due to COVID their tourism industry was hit pretty hard.

Some silver linings to the situation:

China has provided solar panels that should help strengthen their grid and provide them a source of energy that can’t be blockaded.

They recently became a BRICS partner member which should hopefully give them some ability to trade even with the blockade.

Vietnam recently has raised millions in an ongoing effort to send donations to Cuba.

    Edit:

Also if anyone is interested in learning more about Cuba and its history I’d recommend the podcast Blowback season 2.

Adding some links to explain how democracy and elections work in Cuba and why the government still has such large public support:

  • The constitution that was instated in 2019 during his first term has a term limit of 2. He was able to run for a third term since the courts ruled that since his first term was before this constitution it didn’t count.

Trying to run again though goes against the term limit. MAS tried to pass a referendum in 2016 to change that so that he could run again but it narrowly lost.

I believe he tried to have the courts change the term limit in the run up to this election but not sure on what ground they tried to pitch that and it didn’t work.

  • I’ve only been following it a bit so someone else can hopefully add more details.

The election for president took place on 17/8 but since no candidate won a majority it now goes to a runoff on 19/10.

Due to Evo not being able to run and the infighting between him and Acre he pushed his supporters to submit null votes so MAS did not make the cut. So we’re in a waiting period to see who will win but either way it’s a blow to the left in the country.

My understanding is that Evo still has large support from the indigenous groups and they may be looking at a non electoral route but haven’t heard much details on that and have no idea if that’s even feasible.

Edit: Deleting my last 2 paragraphs as @rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml has a much better comment covering those.

  • The buffalo/whale alliance welcomes the support of the bumble bees in its war against the capitalist humans.

  • Damn here’s hoping Mexico starts to buy some weapons from China and start working towards getting a nuke.

  • Great to see, wish the article had a bit more details on their plan to transition to universal public healthcare. Seems like they’re doing it slowly but that’s definitely better than nothing.

  • Fact based education standards.

Teaching a bunch of lies about American exceptionalism and how imperialism is actually good isn’t what I’d call “fact based”

    Stop racism in policing

Right like how democrats in nearly all major cities increased police funding and almost none passed any meaningful reform.

    Expanded healthcare subsidies

But don’t remotely consider universal healthcare

    Preserve democracy

Preserve the status quo which I wouldn’t call a democracy. A democracy enacts the will of the people, democrats don’t even have a democratic primary for their own party.
