  • I still haven’t seen anything concrete that they actually laid mines. Think this may just be Trump making up a situation and then taking credit for “stopping” it.

    It doesn’t make sense when they’ve effectively shut down the strait just from drones. We had 3 confirmed drone strikes today and 1 set the ship ablaze.

    It allows them to still let Chinese ships through although i did see others say they could lay “smart” mines but I’m not as familiar with those.

  • Yeah I wasn’t sure how much support china would provide to a long war if their oil supply was threatened but this removes that concern.

  • It’s common to hear that the USSR got over extended supporting global communism too much but realistically they could have kept that up had they not had the economic problems they did.

    China today has much better economic positioning than the USSR for a variety of reasons so I really think them not helping more is a huge mistake but part of it is that while they defensively an in their region they can likely match the US they can’t do that far from home right now.

    I’m optimistic this could change as China is able to get to parity with the US on military power projection. I know they have plans for building nuclear powered aircraft carriers which is what they need realistically if they’re going to actually militarily intervene to help say Venezuela or Cuba due to their distance from China.

    IMO the next 10 years are going to show if China is actually willing to take on the mantle of the leader of global commmunist movement like it needs to.

    Skimming it over they are still explicitly marxist-Leninist and largely seem to uphold the same ideas and values as the original just updated to the current struggle!

  • Since having kids I think I’ve been more sick in a year than 10+ years before kids and they aren’t even in daycare.

    It’s probably a combination of kids immune systems are still developing so they spread stuff easily and they pick up everything since they touch and put everything they can into their mouths

  • Feel like that’s a bit of a straw man - Lenin didn’t claim that his contribution to Marxist theory constituted naming a new ideology after himself.

    It was after his death that the idea that his work had advanced understanding of Marxism enough and that it had led to a revolution that that it should be an ideology.

    There’s plenty of authors of Marxist theory that don’t end up in -isms but still have very valuable contributions.

    This is coming from someone who thinks the “anarchist don’t read theory” thing is overplayed as most of the IRL anarchists I know do read theory.

  • In a vacuum I’m glad that people are trying to come up with creative ideas to combat climate change since you never know what might work.

    The issue is that in the US this is often being done in place of and not in addition to stuff we know needs to be done like restructuring cities around public transportation, encouraging people to reduce or eliminate meat consumption, etc.

    The amount of times I’ve seen people try and justify the massive energy and water consumption LLM are using because the “AI” will solve the issue for us is way too many. Like even if it was an actual AI being worked on it’s very likely going to just tell us to do things we already knew we should’ve been doing and that’s even if you can artificially create sentience which I feel like is a a big if.

  • You’re not helping them long term which was the point of the Sankara quote.

    It forces these countries to be dependent on food aid rather than self sufficient which means that if they try to go even somewhat against neoliberalism and actually raise the living standards and wages of their people the US then pulls the aid (as well as likely aiding armed groups to kill the leadership) in order to force the government out and installing comprador regimes in its place.
