  • They’re no longer bound to limit production in line with how OPEC decides is best so they can potentially export more now (once shipping from the strait resumes) which will gain market share.

    Probably a good idea since with China switching to renewables we are likely near/past peak oil demand and with prices going to be elevated into next year now’s a good time to make as much as you can off oil.

  • Logically I think it’ll either resume in under 2 weeks or it will stay settled for longer than a year just because a year isn’t enough time to produce enough interceptors to materially change the conflict and as we’ve seen a surprise attack doesn’t effect Irans strike capability much.

    But Trump and Israel aren’t exactly the most rational actors so who knows.

  • I think that’s the most likely reason.

    Europe is not positioned well for another energy spike given they are trying to stop using Russian energy and they also didn’t pivot to cheap Chinese renewables so they’re left with either oil from the gulf states or expensive American LNG.

    Believe they’re also trying to make their own renewables but it’s going to be hard to produce those when your energy costs are high.

  • It has been really exhausting seeing people criticize the government being comprador because they’ve been forced into difficult decisions by the US.

    Like is the situation ideal? Of course not but it’s better to retain political power and give some concessions while you bide your time for the empire to weaken and your allies (China) to gain strength.

  • Yeah that seems to be the case, it left a month ago but last news I found is over a week ago that it appeared to no longer be on its way.

    Chinas solar panels continue to be installed which should help and at least we’re coming out of winter so hoping the weather increases power generation.

    On some good news the people’s forums fundraising hit their goal but I encourage people to continue to donate if they can!
