Ask me food safety and food science questions.

What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

The goal this year (2026) is to lurk less and post and comment more.

  • I found the button, thank you!

  • You're very welcome! Let's get "bready" more active. 😁

  • ... How many bread loaves would you like with your egg? 😬

  • Edit: Replied to wrong comment 😬 but thank you for the link!

  • And that's just the yolk!! Do you off hand know the size difference between goose and ostrich egg?

  • Much like it is in Australia then. It's so interesting, the regional differences!

  • They're delicious and definitely add flavour and texture!

  • Based on FauxPseudo's experience, I won't be putting oats inside. Maybe I'll put the rest of the seeds on the inside, and then oats on the outside!

  • Thank you! It was yum the next morning 12h later. Of course, the crust wasn't very crispy anymore, but the taste was still there. I think better used for toast after a day or two, or add way more oil or butter to the dough.

  • I did use egg wash! Luckily I had use for the leftover egg in another recipe, otherwise I would have just scrambled the rest for breakfast this morning.

..... I'll have to look up how to cross post. I'm pretty okay with tech, but I've not done this before, thank you!

  • Oh, good call! As long as they don't behave like Canada geese, then I'll be alright. How big are those eggs?! They look massive!!

  • Ah, right. Yeah, I was a bit all over the place yesterday when I posted, my bad. I haven't done the soda bread one yet, but it's on the list! Have to do a bread loaf for the week, so doing that right now!

  • Not this one - this one's got yeast. I've never made garlic knots before, so your post was my inspiration! Will have to commit more time next time to make one's that stay soft for a few days. Had to microwave these to warm and soften them the next day. Still yum!

  • Yeah, this one is double walled, and I love it. Haven't paid attention to the length of time it keeps warm because I only boil what I need.

I used to have plastic, and it was alright, but just wanted one without plastic.

  • I have the Phillips 5000 series kettle.

Having it stainless steel inside is important to me because of microplastics. I didn't want any plastics where the water makes contact.

Have had it for over 6 months now and have had no issues. Just need to descale every so often, and not pour too aggressively.

  • I've got a different recipe for a different loaf. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. It'll have all teh seeeeeds 🤤

  • And if I get tired of it, then I can use them to make overnight oats or smoothies! Thanks for the support, I do want to make more bread now 😂
