Each and every one of the creatures we descended from, stretching all the way back to the beginning of life on Earth, has survived by killing before being killed. We are the final product of a string of millions of killers.

  • Stone Mountain Coal Company and the Baldwin–Felts Detective Agency

  • Yea I probably got them mixed up. The British one is what I meant. It's probably number 1?

  • Dutch East India Company - The original corporate raiders.

    MASS ATROCITIES!

  • R E T I R E M E N T

  • I'll give it 100 pages. If I find I'm not excited to read it the next night, I'll drop it. Too many books to waste time on something not resonating with you. If a book is good, it'll happen before you have finished 100 pages. If the "good parts" only happen after the first 100 pages, I'll drop it. Life's too short.

  • We are energy beings with no flesh and blood. We can take whatever form we desire. Food, water, and oxygen are not required, but still enjoyed if you want. We can create and destroy our own reality by just willing it so. We are not imprisoned by spacetime. We are completely free and immortal. You must be invited I to anothers reality. Once there you have no power to create or destroy in the host reality. You can leave the host reality at any time. You seek out benevolent host realities and can exist in your own simultaneously. We are highly intelligent, wise, and experience much wider and deeper emotions than humans. We have any sensor we desire, nothing is hidden from us, other than others' internal and external realities if not invited.

  • Can you use a 3rd party own email client, like K9, mutt, thunderbird, etc? Do they support imap and/or pop3?

  • I used to do that too around back in 2005-2006. Then my ISP started blocking important ports and stuck us all on DHCP. For me, that's when the internet started to suck. It's just gotten worse and worse.

  • Krull

Watched in theater in 1983. Was bad, really bad.

  • I can see it a whole lot better in bed, or around the house. The phone is too small. I only use the phone outside of the house when I'm mobile, except for hotels, then I'll use the tablet.

  • Same. Been a hobby since I was 13 back in 1984. 39 years later, I'm still doing my hobby and being paid for it. I've made a career out of it. Although, I've done it so much I no longer do it as a hobby. It's just too much. If I never saw another computer or programming language again for the rest of my life, I don't think I'd mind. Hoping to retire within the decade.

  • This has happened to me so many times. Frustrating and stupid being belief. Are they hiring 10 year olds to write the html/script? Sheesh.

  • Ouch. That sounds like a pain in the arse. I joined lemmy world several days ago without issue. I joined due to the population size. I have encountered where lemmy.world has been down, slow, and hacked, in the few days I've been participating. So that's not good and it lends credence to what you are experiencing.

I've been looking for a new instance myself due to the growing pains lemmy.world has experienced since the reddit exodus.

You are right, it makes no sense to not offer support outside of being logged into a lemmy instance. It reminds me of my internet ISP. They advertise if you need support, go to

    <some address.com>

. Meanwhile I can't even get onto the internet. Makes no sense.

Anyway, good luck to you. Hope to continue to see you around even if it's on another instance.

  • Haha.

  • Yup. I had this dream on May 8, 1994:

    ---start---

Reports are continuing to come in... they are confirming that the United States of America has just been taken over and is now under South African rule. "Control Panel Warfare" is what they are calling it. Rumors that the President has attempted suicide are circulating around the globe. "It's all done through computers," someone said. They have taken over with computers.

Everything will change. There will be no more homeless. Effective immediately this is now a police state. We were all in a room when my mom came in and announced this information. I think we were in a conference room at the hospital where she works. As she announced this terrifying news, the tone in the room went from joking to a stomach-turning sour in a matter of seconds. The look on my dads face... he was horrified. No one could believe their ears!

I thought an announcement this shocking would only come from the news that nuclear war has just broken out and we only had a few more moments to live. The news that the U.S. had just been taken over was incredibly shocking, yet at the same time I thought to myself that it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. So I guess I was horrified and not surprised all at the same time.

    ---stop---
