  • No school uniforms, not even basic colour guidelines.

  • Yeah, I used to use "LOL" more as a teenager on MSN, etc. At some point it became more exaggerated; people began using it to show genuine laughter or to mock others, and "lol" became a more relaxed acknowledgement of general humour.

Another interesting change is "lmao". That also used to be capitalised and used to indicate a level of laughter greater than "LOL", but at some point it became lowercase and very passive aggressive. I almost exclusively see it being used to taunt/mock others, often by Gen Z.

  • It's not, but if you're seeing Boomers using it too it's because their children are often Millennials.

  • They also love American freedumb culture.

  • Seems dumb.

That's because it's American culture. Politics is celebrity and entertainment over there, as opposed to here where no one gives a fuck outside of cookers and nerds.

  • She'd probably blame migrant workers for "turning an Australian town into an Asian slum" and use it as evidence to support her anti-immigration rhetoric.

  • Very interesting story, thank you for sharing!

  • No, it's not unusual. I actually don't know a single Australian who loves or hates it. Vegemite is just one of many spreads we eat and not particularly special.

Australians have a very bad habit of performing to foreigners, whether that's random people in online spaces like reddit or Hugh Jackman on Conan. They play up stereotypical "Aussie" traits and culture because it gets them attention. Foreigners interpret this fake behaviour as genuine and it reinforces all kinds of completely false narratives about Australian people.

Another one is that we are constantly swearing and casually dropping very offensive words like the C-word. Also completely fake. This is just began culture, normal Australians would find this word offensive in most situations.

  • I guess I can see how it might feel overscored to some, but there's definitely nothing wrong with music in isolation. Describing it as a huge problem feels like hyperbole.

  • You cook the onions alongside the sausage, in case that wasn't clear. Don't add raw onions.

  • Not really background audio, but...Grindr?

  • So you really think the main reason the films you are watching are "worse" is because of affirmative action?

  • So, I dont wanna dish on anybody, but no wonder movies lately have been feeling off, heartless, rehashed, and generally underwelming…

Because they have too many minorities...? Is that what you're suggesting?

  • Seems to be quite consistent with the theory that they are yet to form a reliable voting bloc. The largest, or at least the most vocal, in their confederation seems to be MAGA-influenced racists, but there are all kinds of things that draw people to an anti-establishment protest party which is probably part of the reason they have suffered from infighting in the past.

  • Yes, I think the focus on "Trump's America" is a bit short-sighted.

  • I'm sure it has been discussed several times previously (maybe search in relation to Coles if you'd like to read previous threads), not that I am against it coming up again.

  • "Wellness" is an instant red flag.

  • That's why it's called a strike, I guess.
