  • I've been in the industry for decades, and perform interviews for entry level up to and including principal level. This form of interviewing is absurd, invasive and useless. It will NOT tell you how good someone is... any monkey can write code, the real question I always try and get a handle on is:

Can they solve complex problems? How do they tear the problems apart? How do they apply technologies to do so?

In person (or video) is the ONLY way to tell how good they are.

    Take home tests are useless.

Good on you for telling them no in a very professional way.

I hope you are able to find something soon, it's a really tough market out there!!!

  • Make the deposits higher, then pool the deposits of those that fail to meet the requirements. Then at the end of the year award the pooled money to the climbers who returned the most trash. As someone else said gamify it…

  • Is it time to go back to the plugin-hell called Eclipse?

  • I mean I get a new pillow and it’s great for maybe a month, then it flattens out to be too thin… add another pillow too high…

How hard is it to find a good pillow?!?!?

  • This is what I do… find a comfortable position, then start relaxing all of your muscles.

Start with your toes .. given them a wiggle and relax them. Slowly move up your body into your torso… then down your arms, and finally your neck and head.

I’m usually out before I get to my arms.

  • Non-cloud cams with an nvr all the way. I won’t touch the cloud based services. My go to is currently Reolink.

  • This is neat.. I just tried “faceting lemmy” and my community came up on top.

  • This is me almost every morning around 5am.. 😭

  • Yep, Reolink app pulls from your nvr… I think the only use of the cloud is authentication purposes. So make sure you have a good network connection. 😉

  • I have my entire house perimeter covered with them. Have I integrated them with HA? No. I don’t feel like I need to. The mobile app and notifications works well for me as does the desktop app.

The only time they acted weird was due to a spider web going across the lens. At night with wind it would trigger random motion alarms. My own damn fault for not cleaning them more often.

Edit: One last point, having the recordings local instead of the cloud is a big plus for me and their NVR works well.

  • Hahahahaha … I got a few drops… drenches? Not likely. Send us more!!!

  • Me!

  • Under hobbies, I run a community on gemstone faceting that I'm trying to get some traction on, can you add this to your list?

Is there a live thread for Ukraine updates like the world news one on that dumpster fire of a service that shall not be named?

  • This reminds me of my dad and grandfather having good natured arguments about who was going to pay. It would last a good 5-10 minutes, with one of them ‘winning’. It was all in good fun, and the wait staff usually had a blast watching.

In reality, they alternated who would pay, and did this mostly for fun.

  • Omg, I’m in heaven!

  • Just checked lostsouls by hitting port 23, 22 players online… a bit sad… I remember when there were at least 100-200 online at once.

  • LP was the initials of the developer. What was cool about LP muds was the ability to code new areas/weapons/etc directly in the game. You, as a wizard, could create a new area and load the objects and interact with them immediately.
