  • Actual metric time was a fiasco I've always been fascinated by

  • If we're really committed to not going by solar time, everything should be UTC.

  • In the past I think they've sealed off the leaky module and let it go low pressure. I wonder why that doesn't seem to be enough anymore.

  • I don't know if motion animation is the same as other types of films, but for most of the industry you need box office sales to be double of the film budget for it to be considered profitable. Mainly due to marketing budgets and the huge percentage of profit that theaters get for the first few weeks of a film's release.

  • This is just the "getting to know you" phase or offramp meetups. In 3 exits they'll be in a nicer position.

  • cite its sources

Just so you know, an LLM isn't capable of actually citing its sources properly, that's not how vector engines work. When you ask it to do so, one (or more thread) spits out what ever the algebra says is the best answer, then another thread tries to best fit that output to some article in its database. If the first thread was fully committing plagiarism, then the link is accurate. If it "reasoned" anything then it may not be.

  • Connections is one of my all time favorite shows. I missed that there was a 4th series released. Four series in 47 years.

  • Conservative governments have spent 3 generations, the world over, convincing everyone that deregulation is always a good thing.

  • I've been thinking about putting a nice poster or painting on my ceiling, so when I die at my desk if I happen to slump backward at least a nice poster will be the last thing I see.

  • I always think of a teacher I had in the 90's who had very strong opinions on the matter and wanted us all to abide by them. He was very soft-spoken but he would raise his voice a bit if we pronounced it wrong: "Day-ta is a name, dah-ta is information!"

The other time he raised his voice was to yell at a student, "Fire is not an element!!!" (we were talking about the periodic table at the time)

  • I like to think Q and the Emissary are still having boxing matches. Rope-a-dope is a real challenge when you exist non-temporally.

  • Maybe that's where our timeline split. If Blue Oyster Cult had a lute in Don't Fear The Reaper...

  • I always said I'd consider having a kid when it didn't sound like an 18 year prison sentence without the possibility of parole. All that's changed for me in the decades that I've been saying that is that the odds of the kids moving out around age 18 has plummeted.

These days, at least once a month, either my wife or I will turn to the other and say, "I'm really glad we never had kids." Even my mother, who always wanted grandkids, has even said she's glad we didn't have any.

  • Is it weird that I hope David Warner was also puppeting/voicing The Count?

  • Pssh! Lefties always getting special treatment and righties always getting a handout, while us middles always miss out.

  • That's how I felt for the first half of TNG and the first couple episodes of DS9. But Armin Shimerman, Aron Eisenberg, and Max Grodenchik brought so much depth to the Ferengi that it became a real joy to see plots focus on them.

  • For years now, and that article floating around about not being to google "disregard" anymore (because it breaks the AI) may have me switching to a Duo package soon.

The results are great. Lenses and personalized results are well worth the $10 on their own. Privacy pass is (IMO) a priceless insurance policy.

  • What kind of monster doesn't wear black shorts and a tuxedo tee to a wedding?

  • Presumably the lever is controlling the real trolley problem being run next door.
