  • I had to scroll all the way to the end to see someone else who loves chunks and marshmallows in their ice cream.

I like multiple textures. Gooey marshmallow, crunchy chips. Put it all in there.

  • I think that would fit the xkcd criteria for a positive unpopular opinion. I haven't checked rotten tomatoes though.

Personally, the only modern Star Wars movie that blew my socks off was Rogue One. All the rest were either ok, or, not that great. But RO was absolutely amazing.

  • For painters, dickblick.com sells Liquitex and Golden paint cheaper than Amazon.

  • I'd recommend just getting a steam deck if you don't just want to get a PC. The variety of indie titles and the lower cost just beats any of the standard consoles.

A PC is even better, but the cost of the initial hardware is probably higher. But you can't beat the price of the games or the variety of games available. And the PC won't expire the way modern online consoles do.

I have a PS3 that won't play movies from disc anymore because its online service is down or something. Ridiculous.

  • I never played LOTRO past Moria, so didn't think of that. In my mind, that's where the game ends. But, I guess they kept going.

Just checked the lotro-wiki and I think you're right. Thanks!

  • It's described at the end of his Wikipedia page in the Motivation section.

Don't know if he was a good one or not. But it was an act.

  • It's a fine point, but he wasn't a flat earther. He was grifting flat earthers to fund his rocketry hobby.

  • Every instance just needs to store the communities they use, just like now. But once cached, any other instance could grab those messages from any of those instances. It'd be a peer to peer sort of organization.

I can think of lots of caveats regarding freshness of content and trust and ensuring the tree of instances is auto organized to minimize depth. Maybe for trust you could have signatures for all content signed using keys that every instance could pull from the original instance just once every now and then.

Upvotes and responses would just travel up the tree in the reverse trip from the way content came down.

But, I think it's similar to other things that already exist. These problems seem solvable.

  • If it worked like torrenting where you have seeds, etc, it'd scale almost infinitely. I don't think we should change to fit the algorithm. We should change the algorithm to make it scale.

  • I love reading about Eve, but when I tried playing, it just wasn't for me. But the news about the epic battles, betrayals, etc... It's fantastic!

  • Well that certainly makes me want to try it. Never brewed beer before though.

  • Just checked. I haven't played for a few months. Didn't even know about update 8. Love that parachutes aren't consumed on use now!

  • It never occurred to me that it might be a filter for bad language. Is that a thing? I'm skeptical. I think you're right that it's just a bug. Don't know if it's Connect or Lemmy that has the bug though.

  • I felt so proud when I finished that whole game without any hints. I was close to giving up a few times, but I'm so glad I kept pushing. It was so absolutely satisfying to walk off the boat knowing I'd done it all myself.

  • I can't remember dust storms in that game. When do they happen? Or maybe they happen somewhere away from where I built my bases.
