  • You are treating one side differently from the rest because one side is in a dramatically different situation to the other side and you are acting as if they are the same. Slaves and masters, oppressed and oppressor, treated with the "same" moral and ethical rigour despite one side actively trying to exploit the other.

  • I mean 2 million years ago humans didn't exist but lots of other life did. Why are we some kind of pinnacle? Some kind of special extra-natural entity? It's a very human/andro centric approach to viewing the world.

  • The non-dualism comes more into the problem of religion and scientific analysis. If your philosophical world-view posits that there is a power outside of nature that can influence it independently of nature itself, then how can you square the circle with the science of observation and testing of hypothesis. Surely every time you prove that things are only influenced by their material surroundings and conditions, then you are narrowing, constantly, the scope in which a dualistic power can act upon the world. If you have a divine power that ultimately has no outside observable influence on the world, then you end up falling back to spinoza's monist view of the divine and nature, the basis for most materialist atheist philosophies.

For a short piece pulling at this thread from Engels: https://redsails.org/shamefaced-materialism/

  • After waiting 12 weeks for a 6 week course of CBT that does the bare minimum to get you functioning again: OK now get back to work little worker bee, hope you don't freak out again. If you do freak out again, you have to re-join the 12 week wait list that is now actually 20 weeks. If you do group "therapy" (some online seminars), the wait list is still 12 weeks though!

  • Though both parties are reactionary, their understanding of the basis of political and economic power are completely opposed, with the workers party being opposed to allying with finance and big business capital, and Reform happily allying with those same powers.

Social policy is not the be-all-and-end-all of theories of change.

  • City councils have a lot of power with regards to local governance and procurement, which is targeted explicitly by the BDS campaign. More pro-gaza councillors = more people to vote on divestment from boycott targets.

  • It's not about politeness, it's that the crown have now firmly established themselves as part of the capitalist class, and expropriating them would be the same as expropriating any old capitalist. They have class solidarity and won't allow that to happen baring outbreaks of war with foreign adversaries.

  • The DPRK is more democratic than the UK and you have no idea how its democratic and political system functions, and are invoking it as an anti-communist canard.

The UK is a democracy for the rich, where any wins that are forced out of them by the working class are slowly reversed back to the status quo.

  • She had the audacity to go on one of the flotilla to Palestine and get tortured by Israelis.

  • China

  • By conflating anti-zionism with anti-semitism, the government runs cover for Israel and its genocidal war crimes. But at the same time, it and the media have no problem with the historic anti-semitism of depicting Jews as goblins with hooked noses and being the root of evil in the world, as long as they are the ones doing it.

  • These guys being the capitalists that are making life harder and harder to live honestly, right?

  • Get those calipers out lad

  • The backlash was mostly from the alcoholic MPs to be fair.

  • In the Nietzsche sense and not a nazi sense is funny considering the nazis that heavily pulled from Nietzsche's philosophical thought and the links his sister in particular had with the fascist movement in Germany.

  • It likely won't have any influence on your political thought, but on the first point you should definitely talk to your gp/family doctor about side-effects of anti-anxiety meds and your worries about taking them. Hopefully they will be able to either make you better informed and/or put your mind at ease more generally about this medical decision you are making.

  • I make coffee and tea for my family and friends for free all the time.
