  • This is a hard one as I generally just ignore games that don't appeal to me, so I forget they even exist.

But I guess games that have FOMO mechanics that don't respect your time and push you towards playing every day.

  • Just start with Persona 5 Royal which is on Steam and is regularly discounted. Fanatical currently have it on sale.

While there is debate about which game is the best, if you don't at least somewhat like P5R, you probably won't like the series.

  • I could buy no new games for the rest of my life and still not get around to completing everything in my library (and I'm excluding bundled games I have no intention of playing).

And in 10 years time, all of these exclusives will be available via emulation even if they never officially leave the console.

Can electric trucks win over Australia’s fossil fuel diehards? Or is diesel here for the long haul?

  • If I’m wrong and LLMs are all they’re cracked up to be, then I will be able to get up to speed quickly.

That's the way I see it too. And is this path occurs hopefully open LLMs will be widely available and at least close in performance to the expensive, privacy invading cloud LLMs.

Although it's the non-programming related impacts of AI I'm more concerned about.

  • Should be useful for some other newer controllers as well, particularly those that expose more more buttons and axes than the basic xinput emulation can support.

  • Almost as annoying is if they give you a single /64. Here's an absurd amount of IPs but you only get one subnet. Thankfully, I've had nothing smaller than a /56.

  • So reading a bit more closely these are patches for the mainline kernel, so hopefully this isn't far off being in a released kernel (provided there isn't a long back and forth because of issues etc).

  • It could be a software issue since the FEX translator is quite new and SteamVR had been undercooked on Linux for a while.

  • Shouldn't be legal, even for adults (like in Australia). This is the type of 20th century quackery we've come to expect from Dr Brainworm.

  • This game has been on my backlog for years too but somehow I have never been in the mood to play it. One day...

  • Yep, good points. I was thinking more of the speculators pumping up AI along with the wild reactions every time Trump expels his latest bullshit. But the base of the market could well be just people following the reasonable advice that "time in the market beats timing the market".

  • I just assume most investors are idiot gamblers that are making decisions based on vibes, either because they believe that's a smart strategy, or because they think they can beat the other idiot gamblers. And I see increasingly little evidence contradicting that assumption.

  • They do write some of the firmware at least such as BIOS updates. This is just a generic update service so you don't need to install a different updater application for every manufacturer, which is annoying for users and for manufacturers.

And it also supports updating third party devices like SSDs which Lenovo and the like would prefer to happen without any work on their end.

  • I see some people advertising the original Steam controller for > than the new one as well. Grifters gonna grift.

  • Magit is err... magic, but the Emacs hurdle means many avoid it understandably.

  • I'm now realising that the Simpsons zinc video was probably a parody of said oil propaganda video.

EDIT: The oil video was later by the looks of it. Although I suspect similar ideas have been done earlier.

  • I think there's some bleed between different countries, given increasing global connectivity. I've heard both definitions in Australia which makes sense as we are influenced by both countries but I suspect the British version is more common.

  • Slightly different, but single words meaning multiple conflicting things seem to come to mind more readily:

    • Drop meaning both to abandon or release a product
    • Table meaning both put something aside or putting up for discussion
    • Literally meaning both literal and figurative
