    Ah, America... 😁

  • I lived in the city and moved into the country side when I was 40. I'm never going back. I'm a volunteer firefighter, I know someone who can do something in every trade, I can see my neighbors but I don't have to because land is cheap and the fence is far away. People need each other occasionally and let each other be.

I feel that the whole aversion against village life is stronger in people that want to consume the lifestyle without contributing. Easy said, one needs to have something one can contribute. I build the weirdest problem solving shit with embedded controllers and lora, I help wire new things into our firetruck, I calculate photovoltaics for people, so that's easy for me to say. I've found a niche where a nerd can fit into the village ecosystem, I'm not going back.

  • outback is coming back as an electric vehicle

Yes, but its just going to be the bz4x Touring rebadged. Not a bad car but not exactly a lifted station wagon anymore.

  • I'd love to get a station wagon again, but there is no Subaru Outback in electric and cars like the Opel Astra Tourer scrape going across the drainage dips on some of our forest roads. So one of those mobile wardrobes it is, unfortunately.

  • If you ask yourself what kind of people support those billionaires, that dude, right there.

  • The enemy is consistently portrayed as both subhuman and endowed with extraordinary powers. That framing justifies any use of force, since no ordinary means could defeat them. Stripping the victims of human worth absolves the attackers completely.

  • Four open windows and the sunroof do the trick pretty quickly, I've found.

  • Road temperature is not air temperature, on a sunny day, go out, measure the road and compare it to the air above it.

  • Where are you pulling these numbers from? I'm relatively sure you're just making some up by now until you hit one where any concept that has been explained to you will not work.

    Contrarianism should not be entertained.

  • Are you just throwing dices for numbers now? Above your were talking about 40°C.

  • I'm not sure if you're being deliberately misleading. I'll just assume you've never owned a somewhat new-ish ev. None of those with active cooling use the outside air, almost as follow this kind of layout:

The circled part is the important one. Hell, even the first Gen ioniq which had an air cooled battery drew in chilled air from near the rear passenger ducts.

  • British summers have done a thorough job of convincing the locals that, beyond dumping sewage in it and sailing across it to foreign lands, a large body of water isn't good for much.

  • Unless you have a Nissan Leaf or an UpMiiGo your battery has some sort of active cooling.

  • Of course it isn't. My eTron targets 45°C temperature in the pack while fast charging.

  • Lyon Metropolitan Area Ambush in Rillieux: a municipal police officer seriously injured, suffering a skull fracture

On Sunday, May 3, around 23:30, police were taking two teenagers into custody when they fell victim to an ambush. Fifteen individuals appeared and threw projectiles at the municipal police vehicle. A female officer was seriously injured by shards of glass and a stone, and underwent emergency neurosurgery this Monday.

Laurence Loison (mailadress) - Today at 13:52 | updated today at 18:47 p.m. - Reading time: 3 min

On Sunday, May 3, around 23:30, in the Alagniers neighborhood, two municipal police crews were carrying out a stop-and-search of two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, in Boileau Park in Rillieux-la-Pape. Suspecting them of having entered the premises of the Maison pour Tous community center to smoke drugs, they decided to take them to the municipal police station so their parents could come pick them up. A BST (Specialized Field Brigade) crew came as backup.

    Fifteen hooded individuals

The three vehicles turned onto Avenue de l'Europe when about fifteen figures appeared. Hooded and dressed in black, the individuals threw projectiles at the cars. The municipal and national police managed to disperse them using tear gas grenades and LBD shots (rubber-ball defense launchers).

Unfortunately, a stone went through a window of the municipal police car and injured the female officer who was driving. Taken to the hospital, she was seriously injured, suffering a skull fracture, a depression of the cranial vault, and an 8 cm open wound. This mother of two, who is also a volunteer firefighter, underwent emergency neurosurgery this Monday at Wertheimer Neurological Hospital.

"We cannot back down in the face of these people"

The mayor of Rillieux, Alexandre Vincendet (Horizons), expressed his emotion: "The blow was meant to kill. Behind this tragedy, there is a woman, a mother, an officer committed to serving the community, whose life is now turned upside down. You cannot set ambushes for police officers to kill them, you cannot attempt to take the lives of those who protect us. This is a turf war, they want to instill fear through ultra-violence. Fundamentally, we cannot back down in the face of these people. There are about thirty Rilliards [residents of Rillieux], always the same ones, very well known to the police, many of whom are minors. Faced with very violent profiles, we must reform juvenile justice." The mayor will summon the parents of the two teenagers arrested in Boileau Park, whose stop triggered the intervention. "We must put parental responsibility back at the center of things."

    First ambush ten days ago

Ten days ago, on April 23, a BST officer had already been the victim of an ambush, in roughly the same location. As he was finishing his shift at night, he was followed, and about ten individuals, also hooded, threw projectiles at his personal vehicle. The officer was shaken but fortunately not physically injured.

    "Every arrest creates tensions"

"There are very strong tensions in Rillieux-la-Pape, urban violence almost every day. Because of a core group of individuals who resist police work. Every arrest creates tensions. The major police effort being carried out is greatly disturbing the criminals and the drug trade," observes one officer. In March, the city had experienced a week of urban violence after a municipal police dog bit a resident.

    CRS riot police as reinforcements

Denouncing extremely dangerous and criminal behavior, the prefect Fabienne Buccio expressed her full support for the injured municipal police officer. She announced the deployment of CRS riot police to Rillieux-la-Pape starting this Monday evening.

An "exemplary criminal response" demanded by the National Public Security Union

In a statement released this Monday, the president of the National Public Security Union (SNSP), Stéphane Poupeau, expressed "his strongest indignation." "This act of extreme gravity once again illustrates the growing violence faced daily by security forces, whether national or municipal. Attacking those who protect the population constitutes an intolerable affront to the fundamental values of our Republic," he declared.
