  • Nearly all your major appliances in your home have a filter that needs replaced or cleaned on a regular basis (fridge, HVAC system, dishwasher, dryer, etc.). Doing so and doing a quick clean of the appliance will improve its efficiency, life span, and most importantly save you on your electric bill.

Not sure where the filter is or what maintenance to do? A quick Google search of "how to clean fridge filter" or "where is the air filter for my heat pump" should start to give you an idea of what needs done.

  • No, the day of. My mom had made a big deal about taking pictures and making a big family brunch before she left. I was alone at my grandfather's house and getting to watch TV while playing a MMO simultaneously. Amazing day, until the phone call that upended everything.

  • That fateful day in July 2009. Parents were hit by a guy who was fucked up by a shopping list of drugs. Mom dead, the family that was quickly fell apart. She was no longer around to help hide my father's alcoholism. Not even 6 months after her death, a foul harpy of a female human latched on to him and only encouraged the worst parts of him while slowly doing everything she could to remove or erase his family.

    Wrong parent died that day.

  • Sincerely, thank you for what you do!! Mod authors like you are why this game has been so awesome for the past 10 years (I miss those email links to the new game version download).

  • He’s perhaps most known locally for founding the nonprofit Common Ground in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Common Ground and its health clinic served a half a million Katrina survivors in its first year. In 2019, Rahim received a Living Legend award from the Southern University of New Orleans honoring his work. In a box near his couch sits a framed Lifetime President’s Volunteer Service Award, recently received from President Biden.

For years, Rahim had suspected—but never been able to prove—that the FBI had targeted him. Now, government documents showed that he was correct.

Documents obtained last year by The Nation show that in August 2006, a year after Katrina, the New Orleans Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), a federal-police amalgamation led by the FBI, began conducting a “threat assessment” of Malik Rahim and Common Ground for “possible nefarious Domestic Terrorism or Anarchist activities.”

The JTTF’s report claimed that Common Ground was distributing “propaganda” and “anti-government posters.” Under a section titled “Intelligence Gaps,” the JTTF posed several questions, like: “Is Common Ground planning any terrorist attacks against Louisiana government facilities?,” and, “What anarchist groups and gangs, besides the New Black Panther party, is the Common Ground Collective recruiting from?” It ends with a request for the JTTF to conduct an investigation into Common Ground.

Perfect example of the inherent racism built into the US system; one of the former Black Panthers they interviewed is the definition of a good samaritan that stepped up for his community in ways the government didn't, yet they had the audacity to try and claim he was helping people to recruit new Black Panther members?! Yet actual American terrorists on Jan 7, 2021 have been treated with kid gloves in comparison since they were mostly white.

  • Fancy thing that aquifer in the southeast US. Who wouldve guessed pumping out more than can be replaced would cause sinkholes to get worse and cause environmental and building suitability issues? Smh at the lack of forsight

  • What I simply cannot fathom after reading this and having been through DEI courses at a multitude of other companies (from start up to corpo), is that there are a whole lot of idiots who can't take criticism even if its not about theirselves. As a white dude, yeah there's been a couple DEI classes that made me uncomfortable, but isnt that the point? If you can't learn from the wrongs that have occurred/continue to occur, then wtf are you even doing with your life.

  • That's just salaried folks though. The vast majority of american workers are hourly or contractors. Per the Dept of Labor's own site:

The Wage and Hour Division is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the welfare of the nation’s workforce with a focus on low-wage, underserved workers. In fiscal year 2023, we successfully recovered over $274 million in back wages and damages for more than 163,000 workers nationwide.

Wage theft is when employers don't properly pay their employees and is a HUGE problem because it isn't always out of malevolence, it can be as simple as the time clock not properly computing overtime, etc.

If you don't think that $274 million is large amount, think about how the vast majority of these things never get reported to the authorities; that number should be higher.

  • That sucks that happened to you, but thanks for the chuckle at the absurdity of the situation!

  • That wasn't the point I was making.

  • This, I've known people who got knocks on their door by the FBI and SS for posting dumb shit they weren't serious about as a "joke." They take that shit seriously I guess only when its lone wolves that can't do as much damage and not people rich enough to fund a small army.

  • I boosted because for the most part I agree, however the 40k style commissar executions by the Soviets was wildly overblown by Hollywood and the joys of the First Cold War (imo, it either never ended or began anew in the past 20 years).

I dug around to find some relevant info:

These barrier troops operated by apprehending retreating troops and sending them back to the frontline. When this was not possible, retreating troops were detained to await trial. Although they had orders which allowed them to shoot deserters and “cowards” on the spot, and while this most certainly did happen, it was not the norm. Of those detained and found guilty (around 900,000), roughly 422,000 were sent to penal battalions where they would continue the fight against the Germans by performing the most dangerous jobs. This number accounted for around 1.5% of those who would serve in the Red Army during World War II. Another 436,000 were imprisoned

An example of these ratios can be found in an internal list from the NKVD regarding the Battle of Stalingrad from 1 August 1942 to 15 October 1942. According to the list, 15,649 soldiers were picked up by barrier troops. Of these, 244 were imprisoned, 278 were shot, 218 were sent to penal units, and 14,833 soldiers were returned to their units.

So these blocking units were technically being operated by NVKD orders and officers, and according to their data, the vast majority of retreating/deserting troops were sent back alive (to die on the front line). Also for context for any readers unaware, the NKVD was the predecessor to the KGB, much like how the US had their OSS more or less turn into the CIA.

Couple quick sources since I'm too lazy to dig through my Russian history textbooks: https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2022/11/05/the-soviet-army-once-shot-its-own-troops-for-retreating--the-russian-army-could-do-the-same/ https://www.thecollector.com/soviets-in-world-war-ii-myths-and-misconceptions/

  • Surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but Electric Vehicles in general. I remember wishing for them to be a thing when I used to drive my family's gas-guzzling vehicles. If you look outside of Tesla, there are plenty of options even affordable ones, it might Leaf you in disbelief.

  • Yes! I grew up with Warhammer, and I can't tell you how many times as a teen I wished I could just make my own minis, or print something specific to add on while kitbashing.

Fast forward to today and I have a resin printer, unfortunately my free time is a bit less than it was 20 years ago so it doesn't see as much use as I'd like. God I feel old.

  • Animal services will seek felony animal cruelty charges upon submitting its findings to the Riverside county district attorney’s office, officials said.

Most important part left out of the description. Let's hope the charges stick.
