  • Very very bottom. That's something that should be fixed.

  • No voting necessary. Instances can just choose not to associate with misbehaving instances and then there's no way for them to keep bothering you. There are a few Nazi instances out there in the fediverse but they eventually end up on an island of their own since no one will allow them in.

  • Welcome to the fediverse! Have fun exploring all it has to offer!

  • At this stage in development, things aren't quite robust yet. That said, much like email where you have to know someone's address before you can add them, it's a bit like that here.

If you search for @arstechnica@mastodon.social it'll show up and you can follow them from kbin. Same process for communities on Lemmy.

  • Ah no. Your login is only good for the server you signed up on. But once logged in you can talk to most of the fediverse. So the content is more or less the same. What differs is the experience between services.

  • It's cool isn't it? Have you checked out the rest of the fediverse yet?

  • I believe Jerboa is only for Lemmy. There is an official app in the works, but I'm not familiar with an alternative app yet at the moment. That said, you can use it on mobile as a PWA and it works pretty well.

  • That is a challenge we have, but I think the answer is to just go for it. I'm doing the same here with kbin which is another option for viewing the same content (I'm responding to you from there) but with some extra features. I feel like an advertisement, but at the same time a lot of new people just don't know what else is out there in the fediverse, so I'm trying to encourage exploring and finding what's right for you.

  • Yeah, Jerboa is an android app for Lemmy instances.

Since you're new, also check out kbin which is similar to Lemmy but with some other features. You can still access the same content (I'm responding to you from kbin), and has some access to the microblogging sites as well. You might like it, you might not. But there are so many options in the fediverse you may as well explore for a while.

  • Yes! You get it! I'm glad I didn't stick with the popular services and tried out some of the others. You may find that after searching you're happiest back where you started, but at least you can say you've made an informed decision.

  • Yeah, we have it where I live. Not enforced per se, but trash pickup is every two weeks where recycling and compost is every week. Haven't had a problem with it.

  • Yeah, that seems to be a common misconception. But it's more that your Twitter account can interact with FB, IG, YT, etc, not that your Twitter account lets you log into all the different services.

I ended up with probably a dozen as I was exploring the fediverse, but ended up with 3 more or less but only primarily use two of them (kbin and Calckey… I have a Pixelfed, but use it as much as I used IG, which is rarely).

  • Are you asking if you can take everything of yours from Lemmy and move it to kbin? Or just if you can sign up and use it?

  • Oh that's right. I remember seeing it at one point but immediately dismissing it because of the interface. I could see how that would apply to some, but I'm definitely more of a kbin/Calckey kind of guy.

  • Agreed. I haven't had any problems using it as a PWA, though I'm still watching for an actual app!

  • Yeah, as others have mentioned, kbin ≠ Lemmy, but because of the magic of the fediverse, they talk to each other. But I like kbin better since it also interoperates with Mastodon, Calckey, etc as well. Easier than Lemmy at any rate.

  • What's the 3rd platform?

  • Now we just need Matrix to join the fediverse 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • And if it helps, you can see and interact with posts on Mastodon, Calckey, etc from within kbin. Each 'magazine' has a mod set list of words/hashtags it looks for, so it's not everything all at once.
