    This is a random sample of hundreds. I knew I dreamed a lot as a boy, but the decision to keep a log blew my mind, because it wasn’t until then that I realized how many crazy dreams we have that unless written down, we don’t even know happened. Something about the amygdala, I read.

  • Linguistics just doesn’t deal with definitions like that. It does mean that, and certainly even connotatively historically. Today, in modern parlance, it definitely means “to kill a large portion of” something, and is almost never used as a 10% reference. So your team could be correctly described as “decimated” in both scenarios.

  • Very simple, “I do not consent to any search,” but do not interfere with armed people. Once you have asserted your right, you should not try to impede them violating them. Too risky. Let the courts protect you. Or hope that they do, at least.

  • Yes, but you certainly don’t need to and wouldn’t want to wait that long. You risk lower interest, retirements, loss of acting ability through death or injury, etc. You can convincingly age adults pretty soon. I think they could start filming now or easily within the next 5 years.

    The show didn’t cover the Laconia story line, and given the time that passes before the final three books, we’re coming up on the perfect time to get the same cast back to do it.

    The last few books are, in my view, the most compelling part of an already superb story.

  • You’re right that hypersonic cruise missiles are probably a greater threat and maybe there is a propaganda side to this, but the Oreshnik is no slouch and not particularly easy to intercept. Yes it is ballistic, but it carries MIRV’s which are notoriously challenging. Not arguing at all, just explaining that these are a substantial threat too.
