i should be gripping rat

  • The most cost-effective solution will always be a SBC NAS, as those bad boys just sip on power. However, there is a tradeoff - if your computer is being used as a media server, having higher end hardware means better transcoding performance.

In the bios, there should be an option called "Eco mode". Make sure you have that turned on, if that is an option. Not sure if it's different for the Ryzen chips with integrated GPU.

Finally, if you are using Windows, you'll probably get better power efficiency by switching to Linux. But I'm not sure how much.

  • Yeah, but man I'm reading through her wiki rn and there's some stuff I missed. Stuff like:

In March 2025, Crockett called Governor Greg Abbott, who is handicapped and uses a wheelchair, "Governor Hot Wheels"

    And

In February 2026, Crockett came under criticism for seemingly using AI in a Super Bowl campaign advertisement, to generate a crowd of supporters. The criticism was first raised by Democratic strategist Keith Edwards, who claimed to have found a SynthID watermark in the ad, indicating the use of Google Gemini. In a response, Crockett's team did not deny the allegations.

So like...maybe some of those things turned democratic voters off?

  • are we saying that Mitch had morals now? Seems revisionist. He was the original MAGAt, he just dressed it up in language that was more appropriate for his time. The only difference now is that the hateful, divisive rhetoric doesn't need to be dressed up, so any old hucklefuck (like Johnson) can just run their mouth and the moronic 35% just lap it up.

Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC

  • I got bad news for ya:

  • sure, but that's judging things based on the skill of "reporting the news". We're talking about critical thinking, which is a different skill. Not to say that critical thinking is not useful to journalism, but I also think that journalism is a field where the only way to get good at it is just to do it. Or at least, that is my impression.

  • which is exactly why the NFL went ahead with it, despite the backlash. at the end of the day, he was the most lucrative option.

  • you say this, but do I have to sacrifice being connected to online communities that are more local to my area? A huge privacy issue for me is just participating in online communities for my state and my city. I want to remain anonymous, but I also want to participate in these more local discussions. Just being subscribed to those communities narrows down their search by like 99%. Sure I could create a burner account to participate in those communities, but then I look like an astroturfing bot to other users because I don't participate in any other conversations across reddit or lemmy or whatever.

How does one connect with their local community digitally without making a massive sacrifice to privacy? It feels unavoidable.

  • hopefully this ends up being their downfall, them making the assumption that Iran will roll over as easily as a bunch of starved refugees. I don't want WW3, but I really want to see Israel and the US take an egg to the face on the international stage. I want to see their confidence and supremacy shattered.

    Pokémon Pokopia | Review Thread

  • hey can we unpin this thread? having a pinned discussion topic from 8 months ago makes our community look more dead than it actually is.

  • idk, I think the research we have on voting patterns stratified by level of education clearly shows that college education does correlate with critical thinking skills. Hard to imagine how someone would continually vote against their best interests (ie working class people voting Republican) unless they were lacking in critical thinking skills. Getting a bachelor's degree is (or at least "was", before ChatGPT) a sign that a person could withstand 4 years of intellectual challenges and keep putting out at least decent work. Having a bachelor's degree in liberal arts means that a person spent 4 years grappling with increasingly complex and controversial ideas, and considering how those ideas mesh or don't mesh with their own ideas. Having a bachelor's degree usually means a person has received at least a little bit of training on how to read scientific studies, and how to evaluate the quality of those studies.

The extent of these skills will vary from graduate to graduate, as we all know that some students apply themselves more than others. But my point is that a college education is about far more than just "doing what you're told". That's certainly part of it, but that's dramatically reductive.

  • lollll who tf was Kirk providing education to that didn't already have access to it? Dude literally targeting college campuses, where students were already receiving quality educations.

Games media set for more layoffs, as IGN-owned Eurogamer cuts editorial staff

  • Can someone give the short version on what Ethan Klein did? I read the Wikipedia article but it paints everything in a broad brush, definitely feels like a story missing some key details.

  • yeah i actually just discovered this revival right before posting my comment. It's really neat! Xfire and Discord are always linked in my mind, because i literally first installed Discord because my friends were moving over from Xfire. These days, Steam Chat can do almost everything that Xfire did, so there isn't REALLY a reason for it to exist. But i love seein that ancient UI.

  • I suppose the next question is where will everyone go?

time to go back to Xfire, i guess.

  • this has been shared and re-shared a lot ever since the Nov 2025 email release, but i will never stop upvoting it. Not until we see some real goddamn arrests for the many, many wealthy elites that are implicated by their association with Epstein.

  • It'll never happen, until they make YT premium so prohibitively expensive that a majority of users no longer want to pay. If they're smart, they'll keep it at the current price until it starts losing money, because their effective monopoly is YouTube'S most valuable asset. Once they get any kind of decent competition, the whole house of cards tumbles.

  • And then she declined her staff's suggestion to cancel the event, turned around, and finished the last 10 minutes of her speech. Absolute badass, I love Ilhan.
