i don't think it's inconsequential, information is powerful, second only to unity. and to tackle unity you need to disrupt the flow of information, if people don't know that many others share the same beliefs as them, then it's much easier to fall into despair
and yeah so far no hero has emerged from the masses to unify people and properly stand against the terror, but as long as the information flows it is always a possibility, a constant threat to their agenda
god i hate the constant "LOG INTO AN ACCOUNT RIGHT NOW" with passion. i once had to log into a coworkers teams account and apparently windows decided that's good enough and automatically & without asking linked my entire local windows account with her work microsoft account
one log in took hours to undo
learnt my lesson - never log into microsoft through any of their apps, only ever use web based alternatives (and never on your main browser either, as sometimes logging out is just as painful as logging in)
things change with time, little bumps, little scratches, even if you don't use something for a while and just leave it out in a room with access to sunlight it will change. maybe striaght out of the facotry they were all identical but your item can become unique literally the second you touch it, if you touch it hard enough
our natural body temperature does its best to perfectly balance out to 36.6C, but you are a biological machine, you keep generating heat by just existing, and you need to release the excess. it's much easier when the air around you is colder, but when it's starting to reach the same temperature as your body then your the "uh oh sweating time" triggers to help you along
it's a sad thing really, people feel the need to disclose "flaws" like that because they rejected for them before (or think they would be rejected) whilst it's just... bro 3-4 years of a difference stops mattering right around when you turn 25
it's still an asshole move though, only a soulless corporation would ever clutch to the "well actually" of a single point of an average of reviews to deny a whole bonus
even if they were cheeky like "oh you were one point short so the bonus will be 5% less than we promised haha" it'd have been better than a binary yes/no
none of the "smart" devices are actually smart. in my experience they're really fucking dumb
i once bought a "smart" electric kettle because i thought it'd be nice to boil my water to exact temperatures for my teas. it had a little button on a little screen to turn it on
and of course the screen stopped working, and that was the singular thing that broke. if the kettle had a physical switch i'd have only lost the ability to boil to exact temperatures instead of becoming fully useless
a similar thing happened with my Quest VR. a singular smart thing broke (the proximity sensor) and it bricked the whole thing (the proximity sensor deteced, well, proximity, and input from that decided if the screen inside was turned on. when it broke, the screen never turned on. the proximity sensor could be disabled - but only from within the settings menu that required the screen to be on in the first place. there was no other way to disable it, and that setting reset every full shut down)
never had that happen with my non smart devices, never had a non-critical feature failing bricked my "dumb" machine. oh the proper graphics card melted in my laptop? whatever i just disabled it, it might not perform as it used to but it's still functional and perfect for just browsing the internet or watching youtube
my dumb printer never just stopped for no reason, my dumb kettle with a physical toggle has been working perfectly for 3 years now, my dumb light bulbs only stop working when they've reached the end of their ability to make light, my dumb devices never refuse to work even when what they can do isn't perfect anymore
i was already annoyed by so many devices being labelled as "smart" when they're not, and now they're also adding "AI" to those things... i hate it here
tf you expected we're all broke. you're lucky some of us haven't heard of piracy yet (somehow)
