  • This is not at all surprising. We got rid of prime about a year ago and generally have avoided buying through Amazon, but on a few occasions, it's been the only option so we bit the bullet. It was awful.

Prices and shipping listed were for prime members (autoselected of course) with small print nonprime member prices selectable. Their once famously easy purchase process was multiple screens full of "don't you want to rejoin prime??" pages with the option "join" already checked. Even after selecting the nonmember price and saying no to prime, going to the checkout page revealed an option auto checked for 'faster shipping' that was actually an option for rejoining prime. In buying multiple items this was autoselected on each of them separately, so you're agreeing to prime if you miss changing one.

Even if I have to order from them periodically (which I avoid like the plague), I have no intention of paying for prime again. The whole purchase process is an indicator that dropping prime is making an impact and I want that message to sink in.

For those who have Alexa, downgrading the plan, or even better-- finding an alternative home assistant, will send an equally powerful message, even if Amazon isn't ready to hear it.

  • Omg you're going to have so much fun! It's the best Fallout game and still one of my top 10 ever.

It's the only game I took time to mod with textures, bug fixes and even a couple extra quests and it was totally worth it. I still think of going back and rebuilding my old modded setup.

  • I use several services on this list and I'm curious about everyone's opinions on multi-service providers and whether it's a good idea to go with all-in-one or purchase services separately. I have a paid Proton account and use the mail and vpn, but kept 1password and dropbox accounts as well since they were already set up. It's tempting to have everything integrated and pay one bill, but it feels risky to put all my digital eggs in one tech company basket.

    What do you think?

  • FYI, here's the posting.

Check out this job at Love-my-work: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4272457232

The company is a bit suspicious, having only 4 employees on LI, including a welder and a doctor, but I think the insane number of applicants is still pretty telling of how bad things have gotten.

This one is by far the worst I've seen, but all remote job postings get hundreds and often thousands of applications within a few days.

If you're curious about how the job market is looking in 2026....

  • We do not currently accept pre-orders for DRAM kits

If they don't accept pre-orders as a rule, it seems hard to believe a system error would list something on a pre-order at any price. It reads like they listed the item too low and don't want to look like jerks for not honoring their own posted prices.

  • The woman became famous enough that she held her own art exhibition.

I can't process how that makes any sense.

  • Yes I played with my husband and we loved it, but havent come back to it since finishing the story. Seems to have limited replayability.

  • Also curious about this. I didn't want to do a whole new play through with a gog one but don't really want the hassle of setting up the London mod with my steam version. Been holding off until I get more time to mess with it but the longer I go the more likely I just suck it up and start over on gog.

  • So true. As a kid a was in a booklovers' mail club where I'd get a couple books appropriate for my age and I loved it. I always was working through something up through high school and college.

But grad school required reading hundreds of pages of research for class every week and I was just exhausted from it. I think I only made it through the Harry Potter books throughout my PhD. I go through periods where I'll get through a couple books, and there's a few writers I follow, but I haven't gotten back to loving reading the way I used to.

  • I feel like any time there is a headline about a Waco man it's something ridiculous like this.

  • Has anybody heard any news on the HDMI issue Valve has been working on? I really want one but I use my PC connected to my TV so HDMI is pretty necessary.

  • Is spelling it 'kerb' a British English thing? I've always thought it was curb.

  • This right here is the problem. Consume if you want but be considerate. Smoke at home, or take edibles if you're going to be out around nonsmokers. There's no need for bringing your stank out in public.

  • The UI is why I couldn't finish it. My gaming PC is hooked up to my TV and even with a 70" screen I couldn't read hardly any of the maps or menus. I even dusted of a pair of readers but still struggled. It's a beautiful game and looks incredible but after a few hours of that I just got tired of squinting and moved on.

Maybe someday I'll come back to it and try to find a mod or something but it's just not worth giving myself a headache when there are so many great games out there.

  • “When you look at the way people with ADHD learn, and especially if they are hypercurious, they start reading something and they’re like, ‘Ooh what is that? I want to learn about this. What is that? Does it connect to that?’ It looks a lot more like a messy mind map rather than a straight [line],” Le Cunff says. “The problem is when there’s no space for exploration.”

I cannot express to you how much this captures my experience reading. It can sometimes take days for me to get past a page when I'm constantly stopping to look up other things a passage made me think of or write down ideas and questions.

I feel this too when I play video games. I like to open every box, go through every door, listen to all the recordings etc. When I play coop with my husband it drives him a bit nuts when he wants to focus on a specific quest and I'm exploring.

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • I started that process and hit a road block after getting all the books downloaded to my pc. Can you recommend any tutorials or guides that might help get everything converted?

  • I love how so much science ultimately boils down to putting creatures in a giant magnet and seeing what lights up.
