I joined Lemmy back in 2020 and have been using it as @qaz@lemmy.ml until somewhere in 2023 when I switched to lemmy.world. I'm interested in systemd/Linux, FOSS, and Selfhosting.

  • FYI They're a troll who only post to instigate

  • What do you dislike about them? I tend to be a bit more skeptical of it's progress than him, but I feel like it's good to hear a different perspective. I also like that he gets guests with more knowledge about the topic to bring some more expertise while he acts as a proxy for the average viewer to make it more understandable for a general audience.

  • I think it's because it's entirely unmoderated (at least it was the last time I checked) and while they claim that defeats censorship they also realize that having CP everywhere ain't a good look

  • Typescript's string pattern types are quite neat though

  • It's not bs because you don't know it.

For anyone else wondering what it's about. Due to the way modern memory chips function, they leak electricity and have to be recharged periodically. This prevents the CPU from accessing the memory resulting in latency spikes. This video explains that, and explores methods to mitigate it.

  • I'm not really sure how people come to that conclusion either, but perhaps they are just unfamiliar with these types of posts

  • It's working for me now too

  • It shows a near vertical spike

  • They seemed unfamiliar with the workings of Mastodon, so it doesn't seem like it. There doesn't seem to be technical vision behind the proposal yet.

  • I saw you joined it, what do you think about it so far? They mentioned non transparency of algorithms, and I feel like FOSS would help a lot for that. They also mentioned more regulation, but I'm worried that might lead to regulatory capture, disspropionately affecting smaller communities while big tech remains largely unimpacted.

Also a bit ironic they use gmail lol

  • They said they use a mechanical winch in the video, so they might not use any fuel at all, even for the initial launch.

  • It's like they bought into OpenAI, then never got any updates or made any progress

I think they have access to the same models as OpenAI but choose to use smaller models to achieve higher margins / manage costs when people are using it all day long.

  • The best kind of time

  • Perhaps consider making it clear that this is a joke about coping mechanisms and not a threat aimed at someone in particular. I've received several reports about this post, some from people who seemingly believed that was the case.

  • It seems to be Sinytra Connector

  • They use Debian on the ISS

  • I've heard from other people that it adopts specific writing patterns and behaviors from the people using it. I think ChatGPT saves and summarizes chat conversations to personalize the chatbot, but I'm not sure since I don't use it myself.
