  • Here is an exhaustive list of fedi projects. Enjoy!

  • Do you expect this is a reflection of how Reddit will handle relations with its investors?

Holy shit, they killed him right there. They have put the thread in "sort by new" mode and I bet it's just to bury that bomb as deep as they can.

  • Well, one of the things I like about lemmy.ml is having such a great bunch of comrades next door, filling my feed with pure based.

  • Only text is mirrored, images and video are hosted on the instance where they were posted, so overall it's really cheap to store all of that, and even more so if the load is distributed across many instances.

  • No, there's no central server. To my knowledge, servers federate either manually or by their users manually exploring other servers. But most servers at the moment are already federated with each other.

  • It's okay, a few more days of frenzy and hopefully it'll pay off :) And at least within Lemmy itself, people seem to be answering each other's questions too; you guys can count on us.

  • “electronic drugs”

I guess they're doing a war on drugs then...

  • It's Reddit but federated. A federated service is one that works like e-mail, i.e. there are multiple providers/servers/instances but all of them are connected so it doesn't matter which one you choose. Additionally, Lemmy is federated to other services (e.g. Mastodon), forming what's known as the Fediverse.

    1. No, you only need one account on one server and you'll be able to see posts and comments everywhere else.
    2. Yes, although a few specific servers are blocked by other specific servers, and very small servers may not show many communities elsewhere until their users actually subscribe. But yes, beehaw.org and others work just fine.
    3. You can see a list of all communities here. Also Lemmy federates with Mastodon, not just Lemmy instances among themselves, in case you're also using that.
  • Lemmy.ml is dishonest - they even removed trace of an upvoted sane comment 29 for 1.

  • I understand the frustration, but each instance has its own moderation rules. The mods are just trying to keep the discourse enjoyable and civil, and what they understand by that is not the same for all instances. I like it in here, but you might enjoy some other instance that is more permissive, maybe?

  • They probably want to jump on the Fediverse hype bandwagon so it does not eventually leave them and their corporate interests behind... which is exactly what the Fediverse is trying to do so I'd ignore their attempts.

  • No, I don't recall any increase in activity then, it must be a glitch.

  • Well, it's working right now, isn't it? If the load increases n times and donations also increase n times, it will keep working just fine.

  • Tip: choose 'All' at the front page to see posts from all communities, rather than just those you are subscribed to.

  • Lemmy and the Fediverse. Select 'Active last month' for best estimation of actual activity. E.g., this is the current burst in Lemmy due to the Reddit exodus:

It's multiplied by 4 or 5 and still increasing.

  • This but using my head (almost broke my neck lol).

  • Also, google en passant.

  • Well, I don't post on GZD, but just see my comment count: 560 rn, and that's nothing compared to some users who have been here for longer. Any Reddit user probably has similar numbers. GZD in particular is so large because of the first large migration from Reddit, which originated from r/GenZedong.
