  • Its symbolic move of defiance. Calbee has been queried by the govt for contradicting their "no shortage" claim.

    Petrol firms in Japan suggested the cabinet to take measure in reducing demands bcs they knew the numbers better in April but govt ignored.

    Calbee didn't retract their decision aftet queried. The shortage is true, it's a marketing to make it clear.

  • People are righteously wary of this given how Google funding of Mozilla went over time. I don't expect sudden pivot, but gradual shift to push AI features in 5, 10 years is entirely possible so I'll just keep my watch. Like it or not, 3D GenAI user's also exists (not sure how big are they or growing) and their primary tool is Blender so BF may see them part of the "diverse userbase" too.

  • For small model bonsai series seems getting the spotlight. Natively trained on1bit and ternary 1.58bit, 8B runs on ~1GB memory. I'm curios on local models but haven't tried because of lack of gaming rig but it seems work enough for regular pc

  • AFAIK about Jp movie subs:

    • Some Hollywood AAA type of movie won't give actuql media to avoid leaks and/or very tight deadline. I don't know if this still holds true, but past movie subtitles definitely had this issue.
    • Multimedia translation follows "4 letters/sec" guideline, based on average reading comprehension while following movie, which can cut down a lot of subtleties.
    • On DVD or other budget-tight medium often people do subtitles for their professional training so the quality may vary.

    Edit: I checked the JP translator of Clear and Present Danger - it's Natsuko Toda. She had controversies in 80-00s movie translation because of lots of sloppy mistakes, ignoring background/references and making up unnatural phrases. LOTR (fellowship of the ring) even had subtitle revisions in DVD release, but she's fast and prolofic so lots of Hollywood major movies at that time had her subtitle. I assure other translators take more time and have better quality (but it maybe hard to avoid her for older movies).

  • From what I gatheted from JP news outlets an activist org had some outreach that they have high school students on the ship. Students were killed in such activity during their field trip.

    The activist org did not have license to carry people as an organization or business, and are currently under investigation whether their safety measure was sufficient.

    The conflict may be the root cause but this looks safety issue than political one.

  • Many artists explicitly state no repost without their permission, requiring proper credits and such. It IS a dick move to AIgen-fed edit while directly interacting author's post; that makes people using the AI feature violating author's will knowingly.

    In reality, people don't read artists' comment or bio, when "single button to AIgen and use the art as prompt" exists. It's basically X greenlits anyone to do so against artists' will, and fair use can argue the use of art but never force artists to stay on a platform. That's what's happening. They may have overstayed on a horrible platform blinded by clout they can get there but that is a different story.
