I got Mail plus with a discount, it's their only service I really use anyway. Don't think I actually made use of it. Registered some aliasses since I could, but don't use them so +1 from me.
Once they are registered they are divided into two categories, 'real' refugees and economic refugees. A lot of people come from countries like Tunesia, Liberia and other Northern African countries. They want to find a job in Europe, but the EU won't take them in and they are asked to leave. Most people in this categorie know they aren't welcome and end up working illegaly for a bunch of years. I don't know what the average is, but AFAIK a lot of them don't end up settling down also because they and their children don't have acces to healthcare and education and such.
The people who are generally fleeing from war or starvation have a much better outlook, they will be taken in but the process is long and slow. Usually it takes 2 to 3 years before they get some official status and they can't always choose in what European country they end up in. Usually they will try to live somewhere they already know someone and will have low-income jobs until their pensions. If they are already educated before coming here they have a much bigger chance at a good life since they end up with better paying jobs.
I think most people calling for a tax on the rich understand this only works in a broader system of a well managed government. We can't tax the rich 99% and be done with it. But it's good to mention the things we need to thrive as a community:
Affordable healthcare
meaningful and relevant education
smart infrastructure (preferably focussing on public transport over private transport)
trustworthy organasitions managing things for the public good including all bodies of government
and fair rules for everyone and fair enforcement (not only speed limits, but also taxes and benefits).
Depends, some suffer in Italy, some get send to Albania and suffer there while others make their way out of Italy and find another place to suffer. For a reasonable amount of them those years of suffering lead to a small financial rewards but none of them make it big. But despite knowing they risk their lifes for a life that will be also hard once they step off that boat, it definitely looks worth it to them.
I have one person living between me and the roof, i think she might also last 3 days. But also the colder parts slowly heat up. Not sure how many days i have myself, but the soaked in heat definitely get worse every day.
I really appreciate how Amnesty keeps turning up everywhere it matters, not just the obvious places like Palestine, or repeated offenders like Russia and China but also Europe and US/Latin America. You could easily think they would be too busy with other places in the world where human rights are violeted more, but no - they stick their head out everywhere. Props to them. This is really the beginning of something much worse.
I have a feeling left(ish) media in the US are trying to gain more right(ish) leaders / the whole US media landscape is moving right. Could also be that more Trump-aligned media is looking for international 'news' to deflect from national news. Both are speculations obviously i don't know either.
I disagree, even though this is illegal fireworks they are manipulated to do damage and intimidate people. The recent laws banning a lot of firework has to do with how it is used by criminals, not the other way around.
Another Dutchy here, Russia has been suspected of both spionage and sabotage here and there also in The Netherlands but haven't heard them being tied to any of these explosions. These explosions have been a problem for 10+ years. The amount of explosions has increased over time and the problem is only getting bigger. Russia might feel inspired or use this method to hide their involvement, but it in general those two problems have their own source.
