  • More than vaguely. The man was prescient.

  • Why are those passenger numbers for the train so low? Here at least the railway moves something like 2000 passengers per vehicle on average. Over 3000 at peak times.

  • I'm sorry, can somebody explain what's wrong with her that could potentially need to be fixed?

  • The biggest part of that is social insurance. It's called a tax (FICA) in America to make people hate it.

And here's the fun part: there's an annual cap which is about the same as a construction worker's salary. Once the cap app is reached they stop deducting it. So high earners only pay it for the first few pay periods of the year.

I remember the first time I earned more than the cap. I thought somebody had made a mistake when my take-home pay went up mysteriously in the middle of the year. So imagine: Bezos and friends are all done paying FICA in the first ten or fifteen minutes of the year.

  • Totally tangential, but does anybody else feel old when people use them simple past of "to run" as it's past participle?

It was still irregular even in American English when I last lived there.

  • I think they've been through several rounds of repaving since 1967.

  • OK. My bad. I was going by the headline. Now I see that there's nothing to substantiate it.

  • Why would Iran claim it then?

  • No it doesn't work fine, because it confuses people, and provides the potential for working-around SSO.

  • That's there to support routing to an identity provider for SAML2 SSO.

  • I think Ruth Dreyfus, Yvette Jaggi, and Micheline Calmy-Rey who have served as head of state might disagree. We are non-monolithic all the way up.

We are the only diplomatically important country on earth in which the ability for the head of government to hold more than one competing thought at a time is guaranteed, by dint of there being seven of them, representing all of the major parties.

  • We're not a monolith any more than your country is. Which one is that, BTW?

  • French still has this feature, for instance a driver is a chauffeur, and a bad driver is a chauffard. Some one who goes overboard with partying is a fêtard, etc.
