I hope y'all as mods take this conversation seriously because regardless of its history, at best it's been co-opted by hateful people (IE the locked thread) and at its worse it's a dog whistle for authoritarian/racist behavior. If you want civility, change the name. Only more of these 4chan rejects will come if you all do not.
There's a lot of federated (and now defederate) servers that are run by political and/or economic pariahs likely ousted by content flags/bans concerning spam. Now that regular folks are moving in though, the dynamics are quickly changing to a more common ideology.
I certainly wouldn't want to be associate with Nazis, not sure why that's such a hard concept to grasp for y'all. The person doesn't give a shit about what Nazis think either, they just aren't using boogiemen like "the left" when trying to form thoughts and opinions.
y'all getting politically defensive when someone calls out or expresses any concern about racism is a tell dude. It's just revealing how enabled & triggered y'all are by this.
That doesn't remove the connotation for larger audiences. A layman will never know those details and will read master race as being about race. The social context and history are irrelevant, it's genuinely a dumb hill to die on.
It's likely the same reason subscriber count numbers only count lemmy.world members who subscribe, not all subscribers from across the fediverse. Once I realized that, this place felt a lot less small.
Yeah I recognize it's a decision from the admins here, but it's one I approve of heavily for reasons said when I posted this to the fediverse channel. The motivation behind posting is less tainted this way.
