  • Dockers permission structure AND service running as root really does baffled the mind sometimes

Gentle reminder that there, in fact, much better ways to deploy containers.

  • IF they'rt are dependent on investor funding that demand signals of them using

They will pay the bills with someone elses money so as long as the checks cash

  • STT really helped me. Plus then you can search for key words!

Now my eye sight is worse and TTS is useful lol

  • Fair. Maybe a separate repo makes sense for the wild West of vibe apps, but flathub is really more focused on end users whom will absolutely commit a murder if they find out the documentation they have been using and failing to do what they want was just gas lighting them.

  • Also not to be confused with charasmatic cannible Sweeny Todd

    Again same vibe

  • I mean it's already for Java what more indication do you need to not use it? /S

  • That's a crazy point. Huh. Yeah I can't think of any examples of that kind of show that doesn't besides the absolute unit that is Always Sunny.

  • Honestly trying to treat token like watt is pretty crazy. Like a watt of power truly is a scientific standard. A bit of information is closer but again pretty standard, you know what are sending when you choose to send or receive a bit of data. Trying to apply a standard utilization rate to a unit of information in exchange for a non-deterministic rate, size, or quality back is nuts.

How do you meaningfully show an ROI on that?

  • For real. It's like imagining metered electrical generation becoming the norm if solar was already cheaper and easier to install. Like if it wasn't for decades of hydro and fossil fuel being the cheaper more flexible option it never would of made sense to focus so much on metered connections in the first place (and increasingly making less sense now...).

They will have to have some enforced mechanism to "franchise the sunshine" as they old saying went to prevent a world where they (big SaaS AI) are not clearly the option of last resort.

Even big corp and government world is increasingly "sovereign AI" focused now, just like hybrid cloud almost always makes more sense at certain level of IT infrastructure maturity.

  • Bad word lists never fully cover bigoted attacks. Remember 4chan banned the n word and f word on /b/ for a while. The new fake word just became the new slurs, ideas can't be unalived like that, they won't d!e with regex alone

  • My mom and I dead lift together for this reason.

  • Unless free trade deals includes laborers and their unions it's not truly free trade. Its too bad that politics are where they are that UAW is likely to get slightly better traction trying to strong arm foreign laws on the books instead

  • Good to see AMD fighting as hard as they always do to avoid winning against Nvidia. Adoption of their tool that makes their products useful too high? Better put the stop to that lmao

  • Darn there goes. Lemmygrad /s

  • Because the network effect is the primary reason GitHub is the defacto forge. There some pretty large FOSS orgs on gitlab though, but it's inherently splintered without federation.

From an enterprise standpoint, there are a surprising amount of organizations so big they have several gitlabs running, but tons of friction again because of the splintered nature that takes up.

They did care, then AI became the time sink.

  • Have the filesystem compress by default and ship that?

I know you can do it with zfs. Export a snapshot of a fs with compression enabled. I'm less sure if you can do it with a btrfs, lvm, or xfs though. I know they support fs level compression though.

  • An extension to this is so many of us in the US don't seem to understand that we are still the children we were. You develop new parts of yourself, gain new perspectives, new habits, etc, but the reason you remember the insurance company is the same reason that little kid can hum the whole jingle.

  • Heck every conference I go to I pester Gitlab about it. It's always "ehh it's on the road map". Honestly it really is the solution to that problem space

  • That's fair it has loss leaders and network effects more so. The vendor lock in is non-git, non-ci side. So issues, orgs, etc. Actually you can see where they embraced opensource vs extending solely by the degree it is vendor locked.

If they stole it, it's a loss leader, if they made it, it's vendor locked.
