  • We are talking about a theocratic dicatorship displacing 1,5 million people and sending them into the hands of an even worse theocratic dictatorship. And all you have to say is "yeah, they are probably spies for the jews and this is hedetary"? We are talking about an ethnic cleansing here of an proportion you are not seeing in Gaza. 1.5 million people, who searched refuge from evil people are driven back to them. Please have some compassion, dude.

  • Forget it. There are UN forces in southern Lebanon, quite a lot actually, with the mandate to disarm hezbollah. You saw how that went - Lebanon is still kind of a failed state were hezbollah was a major armed faction with thousands of rockets until the recent war with Israel. There is a reason why the UN is not really trusted by many Israelis and I really doubt that UN peacekeepers are able to disarm Hamas in Gaza, normalize the situation and stop militant palestinians from attacking Israel. It does sound like a good solution, but TBH there is no military force in the world that is able to win such an urban guerilla war. Russia maybe by destroying everything and murdering everybody. UN forces won't help.

  • Linux is running on the majority of servers worldwide. Even Android, the most popular mobile OS worldwide, is based on a linux kernel. The attack vector is already there, there are billions of devices running linux out there, so it's not that you are using some obscure operating system.

  • TBH: Most private users aren't really using many programs. They are running chrome. Maybe an email client, but even that is declining. They are looking at pictures with the standard photo viewer and maybe at some PDFs and sometimes they are writing a letter and print it? Linux totally can do that.

  • Yeah, but VW is not the norm, but a really special case

  • It's not "Germany". It's german factory owners, who are chasing profits. That is a big difference and we should use the correct language here.

  • Yeah, that's really crazy. Russia is really great at finding fault lines in societies and, well, they are pushing a lot of East - West propaganda. You can, of course, discuss stuff that went wrong during reunification, but you shouldn't do this on the basis of the narrative Putin is pushing.

  • TBH, I'm sceptical about fairness to content creators. Spotify for example is paying exactly nothing to your favourite artists. They get around 2-3€ per 1000 streams, which means that you can listen to them quite a lot without them getting rich. Go to some concerts, they will get more money than from spotify

  • I've returned to piracy as well. Setup a plex server, filled it with MP3s and videos and it's great. No fucking subscription. No ads. Nobody except me can delist anything. If I want something to be there, it will be there and not on some competing streaming service. And when you take into account that Spotify will pay Rednex 0,00286€ when you stream Cotton Eye Joe, you're also not really hurting the artists.

  • Lemmy is the first reddit alternative that wasn't setup by neonazis after they were banned on reddit and therefore Lemmy had the chance to get a userbase that is not made of neonazis. And that gives Lemmy the ability to grow, as most people really don't want to use a forum full of neonazis

  • When the state media of one of the biggest fossil fuel exporter in the world is cheering for you, you might want to reconsider what you are doing as a climate activist.

  • We know that it is run by the same assholes. Bluesky is VC backed and Twitter was also. There is no way that Bluesky won't go the same route as every other VC backed social network. Sometime in the future they will start to meddle with your feed to push ads and sell your data to everyone.

  • Why should I get another damn subscription? Why not just block teamviewer.com on the router?

  • Yeah, that's stupid and also how fascists like Melonis party in Italy operate. Take one minor issue, which really is not important at all, and blow it up and use it to spark tensions. Point to historical injustices. Whip up the people. Refer to ancient injustices from the Napoleonic wars. Don't bother dealing with real problems.

  • That is the problem with the whole CO2 footprint. You chosing not to fly is reducing your CO2 footprint, but airline companies will respond with ad campaigns and cries for state help and then other people will take your seat. But if you think it from a CO2 footprint perspective, you are responsible for CO2 produced by your actions. You take the decision to take that long-distance flight to Bali and that adds to your lifetime CO2 emissions. You put solar on your roof and that reduces your lifetime CO2 emissions considerably. And yes, an additional human on this planet will produce a lot of CO2 in his lifetime. And you as a couple are deciding to put him onto this planet - so from that perspective it is totally a good way to reduce your direct CO2 impact by deciding to birth another human.

  • Can you explain why me not having a child would directly harm people with disabilities? I really struggle to see the logic here - even if you want to point out that we need younger generations in order to care for the elderly, there is still a record number of humans living on the planet right now and I struggle to understand what an individual child would change here
