  • Isn’t gramps a desktop app? It would make more sense to use Webtrees when using a VPS, which can be accessed over the web with login.

  • I have two main issues:

    1. The appletv app isn’t as smooth and fast as plex. It is hard to convince my wife to switch when the user experience is not as good.

    2. No profile fast switch. Unlike any other streaming service (Plex included) jellyfin doesn’t offer a list of profiles on startup to select who’s watching. This is a huge issue for me, as my wife, son and I uses the same devices with our own profiles.

  • Personally I think nextcloud is bloated with too many extra things. I’ve been using Seafile for 5+ years and it’s been great.

  • If everyone you text with are on iPhone anyway, there’s no logical reason to switch iMessage off and use SMS.

    Never personally had any issues with iMessage (not sure which parts you think “suck” and are “unstable”).

    80% of my contacts use iMessage, the rest use Signal.

  • Auto play on the TV setting or in the Disney+ settings? Never heard of any streaming apps respecting the TV settings. Generally I’ve had to make all changes in the corresponding apps and if they don’t have an option for it, it wasn’t possible. Disney+ has generally had kids profile not autoplay the next episode but adult profiles it does.

    Been using this for 3+ years and it's solid.

    This setup also works flawlessly with Plex + Prism. I run Picard in a docker container and access it over web, so it can run on my headless Debian server.

  • I understand that though but that’s one of reasons I have a good travel insurance. Basically no-questions-asked allowance when luggage is delayed. So I’ll be fine. I don’t really need any medicine or have any essential items anyway, that can’t be replaced.

  • It’s definitely on budget airlines. Been using frontier and spirit for short domestic flights and they charge for everything.

    Never really had issues with bigger carriers where they include checked bag, carry on and personal item in the ticket price.

  • I always ask at check-in if they will check my carry on for free. My flights are 99% overseas (8+hours) and I’ll have to wait for my checked bag anyway. It’s basically 50/50 if they will do it for free. I really don’t understand why I don’t want to check it and rather it fills up the cabin.

    Even on short domestic flights I don’t mind waiting for a checked bag and all I need on the actual flight is my phone, a book and headphones, which I can carry without my carry on.

  • This is definitely not an EU wide issue. I’ve lived in a couple of different countries and always had the option of using my own hardware with static IPv4 and recently also static IPv6 addresses and with no port restrictions

  • My wife and I upgraded from X and XS to 13 Pro when it released. Both phones holds up amazingly well. Only new feature I’m envious about is the dynamic island but it’s hardly a feature I would upgrade for.
