  • We gotta badass here!!

  • For generations, we were taught to value the opinions of the wealthy. Now we know for the vast majority of billionaires, their extreme wealth is mostly due to chance, not inherent ability, or even worse is actually evidence of their lack of character. The illusion has fallen away. They are the last people we should seek advice from on living a moral life. We should punish them for the act of hoarding immoral amounts of wealth to themselves. I am encouraged because this viewpoint seems to be spreading, and even more encouraged because I think they're scared. They should be scared.

  • For me I was trying to host it a few years ago on an Nvidia Shield. Found it kept forgetting media and had other performance problems. Was probably a function of trying to use media from an external drive, and maybe bugs with the Nvidia Shield implementation, android scoped storage issues, etc. I went to Jellyfin on a Pi and have found that mostly bulletproof

  • You don't have to use a tunnel, for example I use a reverse proxy to a domain I own, and set a cache rule so cloudflare doesn't get mad.

  • Yeah, they clearly should charge for what they provide, dynamic DNS and user experience. It's just about the cost/benefit, which is debatable

  • I totally get what you're saying. Nextdoor really is an unpleasant view into how unintelligent everyday people are. I've seen it too. I try to be a humanist but they make it hard.

If we prioritize education they fail. That's why they attack public education with everything they have.

On the other hand, during Jim Crow they had poll tests that were weaponized to keep black people from voting.

  • He completely misunderstands the product. Transparency is paramount. Not trust.

  • The median voter will never realize. They will always forget and eventually get scammed again. I haven't made peace with this, and feel a kind of grief about it, but it's the truth. We are trapped in this cycle of idiocy.

  • Some have tried. They have a long history of suppressing unionization efforts.

Full time employees are not currently unionized, although some contractors indirectly employed by Meta are. In April 2024, the NLRB ruled that Meta had unlawfully restricted employees right to organize, including "non-disparagement and confidentiality restrictions (that) prohibited former employees from raising workplace concerns with co-workers, labor organizations, or the public, preventing them from finding support when dealing with labor disputes. These restrictions would also apply even if former employees' statements were truthful."

  • It is still a metric of whether we're aspiring to build a pc or not. I have been meaning to build a new PC for years. Now I have entirely shelved those plans. I wish I hadn't procrastinated :(

  • It's the investor obsession with forever growth. It ruins everything.

  • I've long wondered when this was going to happen. Their investors must have been frustrated about the lack of revenue per user growth (eg, screwing us over with annual price hikes and removing features from free plan)

  • Can keepass do passkeys?

  • Evidence from previous outbreaks, including the Epuyén cluster in Argentina, in which three patients accounted for 21 (64%) of 33 secondary infections, indicates that person-to-person transmission of Andes virus infection can occur through close contact.

And that was on land. There's no precedent for a cruise ship, a hilariously infectious environment. Fuck cruise ships forever, I wish we could just ban them.

  • Genomic information also shows that the virus involved in the outbreak is similar to Andes viruses already known to circulate in South America and is not a new variant. There is currently no evidence that this variant spreads more easily or causes more severe disease than other Andes viruses.

Another good link with very detailed (very technical) info https://virological.org/t/preliminary-analysis-of-orthohantavirus-andesense-virus-sequences-from-a-cruise-ship-related-cluster-may-2026/1029

  • I would vote for a candidate that begins the process of devolving the Union so we can eventually divorce into separate countries. I think we are doomed for civil war either way. As a Californian, when they're doing stuff like systematically disenfranchising us, withholding our Medicaid dollars and attacking our public universities despite us contributing more to the treasury than we take back, it's hard to feel like an American. I'd prefer to be a citizen of California than share a country with these freaks. Winning elections won't make me feel any better after seeing how they despise and want to destroy us.
