According to Anssaf Ali Mayo, a Yemeni lawmaker, Abraham Golan was hired as a mercenary to kill him back in 2015. He said it was part of a larger effort by the UAE to eliminate people who opposed them politically
A Saudi citizen who refused government orders to give up his home to make way for a new mega-project was killed by security forces, according to Saudi activists.
“The Saudi government has no right to uproot our people from their lands and homes for their projects that don’t benefit the region or the residents,” said Abutayah.
Abutayah alleged she has received death threats from Saudi agents because of her opposition to the government.
The Red Sea development, known as NEOM, is a mega-project envisioned by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) in Tabuk province.
It happens in desk work too. But I've been lucky to work in places where people turn a blind eye, the other nice thing for me is as a dev in the industry I'm in, there's always something new to learn on the internet.
"Today we’re laying off over 1000 Epic employees. I'm sorry we're here again. The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we're spending significantly more than we're making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded. This layoff, together with over $500 million of identified cost savings in contracting, marketing, and closing some open roles puts us in a more stable place."
Less than a week ago they fired a bunch of staff because due to (falling) profits. It's disgusting, all these people suffer so that the c-suite can get a nice payout when if / when Disney buys.
I certainly enjoy talking to LLMs about work for example, asking things like "was my boss an arse to say x, y, z" as the LLM always seems to be on my side... Now it could be my boss is an arse, or it could be the LLM sucking up to me. Either way, because of the many examples I've read online, I take it with a pinch of salt.
Interesting that govts are also considering biometrics to verify age. Crazy how everyone is clamping down on this at the same time, but I've yet to meet real people who like the idea.
Interesting explanation of the psychology and I don't necessarily doubt it, But I also offered a solution. The solution I've offered fixes the problem, the salesman's solution sounds like it solves the problem but does not.
Brexit vote was 52% for leave. Intelligence is a bell curve...
Anyone with any sense knew leaving a free trade agreement with our biggest trading partners, and the ability to influence the rules on that trade and standards, was a fucking stupid idea. Unfortunately it's easy to prey on stupid people.
Also, I'd argue that the UK and French/German culture and values are generally a lot closer than the rest of the wider world - we're neighbours and have a lot of shared language and history.
Yes exactly this. I try and explain a computer thing to someone and get ignored. That same person talks to some sales rep in the electronics store and comes away "ohh they said I need to buy super expensive antivirus, that'll solve my issue with my screen resolution being too low". 🤦
I hate reddits new UI. Shows a few comments, hides sub-comments, then a block of ads, then a useless automoderator comment and finally a 'click for more comments' button.
Missed a link, sorry!
