  • The Verge is a site focusing on tech products and services.

I cannot believe anyone would find it surprising that they talk about tech products and services.

  • Welp, I have nothing to say to that kind of attitude. It’s a fairly decent day across much of the US and Europe for an uplifting walk outside.

  • Is it only news if it invokes strictly trite and sorrowful commentary?

  • Some of y’all just like basking in depression and misery. Upset when prices go up, upset when a company lowers prices.

Tidal is generally very highly regarded among those who seeking a music streaming service that’s higher quality and pays out to artists. It’s no surprise this gets a positive shine.

Considering this was written by a reviewer, a person paid to give opinions

  • doesn’t feel as active as the numbers suggest, that’s still an issue.

worth noting to those people who will read this and go: "I should browse /All and post nonsense everywhere to boost activity!", please don't. A community with a bunch of uninformed discussion is just as dead as a community with no comments.

  • Ehhhhhhhhhh.... Considering activity was on a slow decline Sept-Dec (not counting August->Sept due to i-think bot-spam issues in the count)

The numbers didn't really grow until the method to count active users was modified. We won't know the impacts of growth/decline for another 2-3 months at least.

  • I’ve been on this rock long enough to know this will carry on for more than just during the primaries.

It’s going to be a long 6 months, for sure.

  • As I said, I'm not sure what to say. I've done both cases, a transfer and restoration, and had issues with both where some app data didn't copy over. Maybe I should prioritize getting a Pixel device as my next Android fiddle-phone.

Contacts, photos, settings were mostly fine (though I did not do an exhaustive audit, but I'll give it credit here).

  • (I ended up wiped/deleted this comment, but it's original contents stated that I had upgraded my drawer-android-phone to a S23 last year from another 3-4 year old Samsung device, and that I wasn't sure what to say here. I deleted the comment because, I don't have the energy to debate)

  • On the other hand, the phone just works, upgrades between devices are seamless, and the phone retains value after 4 years.

Plus, the backup restoration is insane. If you stole my phone, I’d be back to where I was within an hour or two — all of which is driving to Apple and waiting on a sales clerk to pull an iPhone from the back, then going to a store owned by my cell carrier to register the device on their network. No device re-customization at all in the equation. There is nothing like it on Android.

5GB is a lame amount for a base tier of storage in 2024 but it’s hardly abuse.

  • I did some poking around. It looks like charging stations are actually limited by brand for now.

When I changed my brand from Ford to anything else, NACS-compatible Superchargers didn’t show up.

  • So I see in the Tesla app that it asks which vehicle you have and if you have the NACS adapter.

I wonder if this will be used to determine supercharger availability. Like if a vehicle has the plug on the front-drivers side or rear-passenger side, count it as using two chargers so that the available stall count is accurate.

Rivian confirms Tesla Supercharger access in March

    electrek.co /2024/02/29/rivian-confirms-tesla-supercharger-access-in-march/
  • That’s actually a really good question…

The app seems to let you set vehicle details and has far more makes than only Ford… and lets you specify if you have the adapter or not.

It looks like the charger map might list NACS-compatible chargers too now.

  • Thanks for coming here from /All but please note that this is an Electric Vehicles community, of which is centered around cars.

  • Sure but where do you draw the line on just accepting data multiple independent testing agencies put out?

It is simultaneously possible to recognize that Elon is a shithead, Tesla panel gaps are a thing, and independent testing found the cars to be safe.

  • I would have to assume the testing agencies take this into account. It would be too lucrative of a loophole to exploit.

This doesn’t seem to be made in good faith given your repetitive commentary against Tesla.

  • This is a pretty big allegation to make without evidence.

The IIHS has no incentive to trust the manufacturers here. IIHS data is used to set insurance rates and encourage carmakers to design safer vehicles with respect to the occupants and pedestrians.

Other groups also rate it highly:

    Euro NCAP: https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/Tesla/Model%20Y/46618

    Same for the NHTSA: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2021/TESLA/MODEL%252520Y%2525205-SEAT/SUV/AWD%252520Later%252520Release#safety-ratings-frontal

It’s simply a safe vehicle to be in during a collision.

Anecdotally, I’ve been rear-ended while stopped in traffic on a highway by a F150 going 30-35mph. It felt no worse than the “bump” you get on a wooden rollercoaster. Sure the back of the car was fucked up but the crumpling was brilliant.

  • I’m a bit skeptical of these numbers unless I’m reading this wrong…

Across 24200 miles I have averaged 273Wh/mi in a 2022 Model Y LR. I am shocked a 3 would do worse than that.

Also some of the Kia EV6 numbers seem kind of high?
