hello! I’m Chloé, a nerdy ace trans gal :3

this is my lemmy account that I use sometimes. I am also on the microblogging side of the fedi at @carotte@toot.cat :3

pronouns are she/her

  • if you’re on a single player world, that’s up to you to decide! it’s your world, your rules. i personally consider it a bit broken so i don’t do it, but i also consider iron farms broken so my opinion is probably not representative.

if you’re playing on a server, consult with other players, or check the rules/ask admins if it’s a big server with established rules.

  • did you know that when there’s an overproduction of food, rather than selling it, it just gets thrown away?

for example, if dairy farmers make more than their quotas allow, they are expected to simply throw their milk down the drain. thousands of liters of perfectly fine milk, completely wasted. and this sort of waste is not exclusive to dairy farms either

under capitalism, so much of food waste is entirely preventable, if not deliberately caused! just by ending this practice, ending the intercontinental shipping of perishable food (which means that, yes, you in europe, north america or australia would have to give up bananas, so sad) and turning supermarkets into food banks rather than stores (so no pretty displays of food outside fridges), i bet that we could save tons of food from getting wasted

  • that’s a good image to convey the message to people propagandized by the us, but yes, "fbi" and "repressive regimes" are one and the same here

your domestic government poses much more of a threat to your privacy than some foreign "repressive regime" far away

  • are you aware of which party has a majority in canada’s parliament right now

  • as opposed to pepe and wojacks…?

tbf we’d be fine without both

  • jdpon don strikes again by helping south africa’s decolonization efforts 🫡

    /j

  • most people are not aware of google’s shenanigans, and even less are aware that there are better alternatives

why not help people discover these alternatives instead of being an asshole?

  • "tired of Crap? use Shit instead"

  • telling that what they though of to illustrate the dangers of feminism oooOooOOo!!! is just men being treated like they treat women.

  • disappointing but not that strange. we love to criticize the usa all the time, but when they want something, we kneel and start licking the boots…

  • isn’t it fun how every major operating system is vibe coded now

windows is an unstable mess, macos’s new ui is the most broken it’s been in decades, and linux is getting one new vulnerability per day. the future is exciting!

  • men in particular say this all the time, too

"i would kill for my wife" would you do the dishes for your wife? the laundry?

it’s easy to talk about sacrifices you’re never going to have to do, especially when they make you sound so badass

but actually doing stuff to improve people’s lives around you is much harder than just talking

  • Stop arguing the tiny points with me and SEE IT.

i agree, that’s why i think talking about systemd here (and arguing wether they want to implement this or not) is a massive distraction

anyways i’m gonna practice what i preach and stop talking about systemd now, enough bytes of online traffic have been spent on this

  • i guarantee you the lawmakers who pass this kind of awful law have no idea what systemd even is or what it does

blaming it (or "systemd simps") for this is a colossal waste of time. the surveillance society has been progressively installed in the imperial core ever since 9/11, age verification and what’s it turning into is a consequence of this, and systemd adding an age field is a consequence of that.

blaming systemd for this shit, even in part, is so bafflingly silly, such a ridiculous example of swapping cause and effect that i can’t imagine you’re doing it sincerely but apparently people agree with this???

that’s like blaming the small creek in your garden for the existence of the raging river upstream. idk.

  • systemd has nothing to do with this lmao, if you see this and immediately think "this wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t let systemd discuss putting an age field 2 months ago!!!!!1!" you are severely, severely misled. to stay nice.

nvm i’m pretty sure this is just ragebait

  • wild to me how many people are upset by "i find genocide unacceptable and won’t vote for anyone who has it as part of their policies"

they treat it as if it’s some kind of insane opinion and not, like, the bare fucking minimum in terms of ethics???

  • how to turn a very mid update into easily the best one since caves & cliffs, holy shit!

  • i think that's true of most people in any generation, honestly. gen alpha isn't uniquely tech illiterate in my experience, look at all the stuff kids are doing to bypass age verification!

there's also that all of gen alpha are kids or teens, of course most of them are gonna be less knowledgeable about stuff than adults lol

  • hmm, if it's an x86 chromebook i'm assuming you could install linux on it like any other x86 device... not sure tbh, i've never done this 😅

if it's ARM, then postmarketos may be your best bet, it's typically used for phones but they have many laptops supported as well. maybe yours would work!

i've seen stuff like crouton, chrx and galliumOS which are all projects that are supposed to help run linux on chromebooks, but they're all abandoned as of now so i wouldn't recommend them.
