  • Colonies filled some pockets but for the states, most of the time they were a money drain. Especially when effective colonization (as in taking control of vast territories and "civilize" the people) took place. The real profitable moments were mostly due to trade/piracy, and not territorial control, which is very expensive.

  • That's really not true and you should know it. Portugal and Spain are two of the main colonial powers in European history and they were both shit poor in the 70's. Portugal more than Spain PRECISELY because it still had colonies, that were costing it blood and money for centuries by then.

I'm not victimizing Portugal, just reminding you, and anyone else who might need to learn this, that colonization was profitable only for short periods into few pockets. Portugal had 3rd world child mortality and alphabetization rates right before joining the EU. Joining an open trade area was the secret to change that.

Also, another important reminder, most EU member states never had colonies.

  • Yes it does, troll.

  • China is the one keeping Russia afloat while destroying Ukraine. Go sway stupid troll, the Fediverse is not for your kind. Blocked.

  • On the same theme, this is what the EDP posted on their socials 🤣🤣

  • Welcome to the good side.

  • So.. It's not the same spelling right? Then it's easier to come up with a different pronunciation as well. I would say "uero" as an anagram for euro.

  • Lots of grounds to at least suspend Hungary's membership of the Union. This should not be permitted in the EU period.

  • If it was only the internet.. US content dominates TVs, cinemas, newspapers and bookshops all over Europe. And in big part that domination is made so easy because we all invest millions of euros to teach our populations how to speak English. L

  • Growing number of submissive traitors.

  • How is Hungary still a EU member? Extraditions in the EU are almost automatic, this requires trust in each others justice and prison systems. If there is no trust, then there can't be extraditions of national citizens to other states. This system is quite extraordinary and remarkable (extraditions between states in some federal states are more complicated), but only works on bases of trust and compatible systems with not too different laws and practices.

  • The problem is that broken English doesn't really fuels a European identity (it's spoken everywhere) it only places us in a submission position in relation to US culture. And that's why we go on reporting on Oscars or Grammys while completely ignoring the awards and artists of the country next door. We're consumers of US English culture and that's that. Feeding the US market..

  • The added value can literally be decided by decree. Make it official in the EU and off you go.

  • In the context of this sub being Eurocentric is not really a disadvantage.

  • Esperanto has far more C2 level speakers than Latin. Teachers teaching Latin in European highschools generally can't speak it themselves. It's not taught as a living language to use on your life, it's taught in order to understand ancient scripts.

  • Not necessarily. Don't know if the Hungarian law requires it, but the process of exiting is simply started by the government. Theresa May did it (and by the way, the law in Britain did not require her to do it as the referendum was not legally binding).

  • I could settle for Interlingua.

  • I think I've only tried Jerboa besides Boost. Thanks again.
