  • Users are paying way more than the cost of inference. Look up inference prices of high end open weight models vs claude or gpt. Cheaper by an order of magnitude.

It's the constant training of new models that's losing them money. New version is out every month.

  • Open weight LLMs are actually pretty cheap because there are competing providers. But something tells me your boss isn't using openrouter to find the best price per million tokens lol

  • The hardest part about the copying is the actual copying without having access to the weights or even just a ready to run file for the model.

IIRC Deepseek kinda did something like that by asking ChatGPT tons of questions to train their own model or something

  • Unironically not a bad idea to have LLMs review eachothers code before committing. And then human review the PR.

  • It's one rich asshole.

At least that's how I've always seen it

  • Well mostly the others used whatever chip is on the device, that one only used the display sadly

  • Honestly this one is a wealth transfer method because it doesn't bring in shit and the upkeep is a bitch

  • Fat USB is called USB A. The one you use for printers is USB B. Then there are mini-A, mini-B, micro-A, micro-B and USB 3.0 micro-B which are all different shapes physically. And USB A 3.0 has slightly different contacts from USB A 1.0/2.0

Anyway, that was when USB nomenclature was still simple. Don't google anything they did past version 3.0, for your own sanity. We're now down to mostly the USB C and A shapes, but USB 3.2 gen 1x1 is the same thing as USB 3.1 gen 1 is the same thing as USB 3.0.

USB 4 simplified things a bit, but now you can get things like Gen 4 asymmetric 3:1

  • It comes with the price of tons of compile time for everything

  • That just raises CEO salaries because it proves my ongoing theory that CEOs get paid as much as they do to take the fall for everything the company does so the shareholders don't lose money.

  • It's mostly oil countries that have a sovereign wealth fund and it comes out of the oil money. Norway, Saudi Arabia. Idea being that oil is a limited resource with a lot of value and the proceeds should be used to ensure everyone's future.

Of course the US IS an oil country...

  • Risc-V and intel arc weren't really on anyone's radar when this was made. Newest stickers seem to be the Win8 and AMD A4 which are both ancient .

  • It's been too long since I've read the book, but at least in the film it's consumer culture in particular that he's talking about when it comes to modernity. I think most of us agree with him on that one

  • I love how at least like a decade ago, Soros and Gates were the only billionaires that the right hated and somehow they also thought those two billionaires were commies or something and that people on the left loved them. Well maybe Gates was doing a solid whitewashing campaign but Soros? Never heard anyone praise him.

  • It's Schrödinger's brick. It's only two bricks until you find out which brick it really is.

  • Ah yeah I didn't realize that in the US interest could be charged after the fact like that.

Where I live, the interest for these deals is 0%. Some have a small service fee. But they really make their money from the merchant and generally whoever provides the 3 month payment option also provides the regular installment plan options for the same merchant and those have pretty high interest.

Basically those deals are there not to make money on their own, but to get you to buy more things (that make the seller money)

  • Oh that has little to do with tech bros, it's the alt-right wave that started in the early-mid 2010s. I mean Facebook facilitated it quite a bit of course, but it was gonna happen regardless, it's been sponsored by Russia among others.

  • Mental Health @lemmy.world

Anyone with SAD: Have you tried a dawn simulator (or sunrise alarm as I think they're also called)?

I don't have to be trans to appreciate good news!

Anyone got experience with Ducky keyboards?
