I say weird shit and half the time I actually believe it.

  • It is a very selfish viewpoint to only consider how a rule will affect you personally.

That being said, I agree with you, just I think that as a society we should clearly delineate what is appropriate for a preteen or younger and what is appropriate for a teen and an adult.

People only get a certain amount of time in their life to be innocent.

Even though we should definitely remove the innocence (that comes from ignorance) from people before they become adults so that they can make informed and logical, rational decisions for their own lives, there should be, like, a generally agreed upon time and place for that to start happening in a newborn human's life, and the more reliably we can clearly communicate that this is a 13 and up, versus a 13 and under, or whatever, the better the world will be for those people.

I'm not doing a great job of explaining, but yeah, basically I think that there should be easy or like an agreed upon cut off in American society where we say this age and under is a poor innocent child and should be protected from all bad naughty no-no words and their ilk and then the point we all agree this person is old enough to know better.

Not to shield them from knowledge, but to allow their innocence to be a larger part of their lives.

  • For work, we got some of the HP AI Ryzen Max 390 laptops with 64 gigs of soldered on 8000 MHz DDR5 memory, and holy shit, I have never felt such a snappy, responsive computer.

Like the comparison between my laptop with the 13950X and 64 gigs of memory at 4800 megahertz and this Ryzen ai 390 feels very much like when we first started getting SSDs and making the transition from spinning rust to SSD.

And I know that a huge portion of that is due to the fact that the ram is twice as fast. But still, it is simply snappy. It's nice, and it makes me jealous that these are not computers for me, but for someone else.

  • If they develop processors that hit the claimed frequency or a higher under the same TDP, then that means that that same processor can do more work with less energy.

Even processors today that can hit five gigahertz or more with overclocking do not constantly run at max tdp.

  • I swear to god if you fuck that cat

  • Assuming it's a one way trip, I'd probably go to the year 1998, Impersonate my dad, Rescue child me from some shit, Win the lottery, Stop 9/11, and then die and leave my younger self with more money and power than he could reasonably cope with.

  • If your parents didn't meet and make you, then it is likely they would have met other people and made other people. Don't put the curse of your existence off on some other poor sap. Stand up and drink your cup.

  • Nothing. It's not our individual fault. It's going to keep going no matter what you or I do (short of terrorism) until the whole thing crashes down around us.

  • I saw a movie that had the actress that played Rita Repulsa in it as the mail order bride of a random side character who would occasionally sneak away to the bar across the street from their house and shoot ping pong balls out of her pussy.

It's not really relevant to this conversation, but every single time Rita Repulsa is mentioned in some thread somewhere, I always go back to seeing the ping-pong balls flying from between her legs.

I think it was the movie about drag queens going across Australia.

  • I want to add that I know this sounds mean like I'm angry, but it's kind of more like I'm frustrated with the impossible constraints of the mental exercise.

If I have offended you, I do apologize. It's not my intent.

I enjoy solving puzzles, but assuming that none of your constraints can bend, then the only thing I can think of would be for you to send out a mailing list begging for money and hope that enough people respond, like a letter saying, "hey, send me a dollar and you'll get good luck", or something.

For $20, you should be able to send about 40 letters, and if all 40 of them send you $1, then that would meet your requirements.

  • If I knew how to do that, I would do it with $10,000 or $100,000 and not $20.

How the fuck are you not gonna interact with people but have cash change hands?

You can't talk to people. You can't meet people, but you must somehow get money from other people. The fuck.

You also can't use banks or credit cards? How the fuck are you gonna meet someone online and get them to mail you $20?

  • Are you participating in the same thread that I am?

I literally said that landlords are using software to set the prices with software in collaboration with other landlords.

I also said there are lawsuits open about this action.

I was then told not to be a devil's advocate, and my response was, I am not advocating for anything.

Now you say that I am making excuses?

What logic train are you guys all on?

Because I am not on the same logic train as you.

Ihave not supported anything, or advocated for anything, or excused anything and yet you seem to have convinced yourself that I have, and I don't know where it's coming from.

Like if I'm fucking up fine, you know, downvote me. If I'm saying something that's controversial, fine, downvote me. But nothing I have said should be considered a fuck-up or controversial. So I don't know why people are against me saying it.

  • I'm literally not advocating for anything. I'm sharing knowledge and allowing others to come to their own conclusions.

  • I'm not in support of this practice, I'm just sharing the info.

Don't shoot the messenger my dude

  • Sorry, that's actually already factored into the cost of the rent.

The real reason why so many properties are vacant is that even though landlords know they could fill the vacant apartments by lowering the rent, there are companies that make money by telling landlords how much to set the rent for, even if they keep the apartments vacant. showing that they will make more money with less overhead by doing so, so that the decrease in hassle will justify the decrease in profit.

There are a couple of various lawsuits and actions that are going on about these companies right now, and we have yet to see how it's going to play out. But, the cat is out of the bag, the genie is out of the bottle, the likelihood of rents returning back to something that people can afford with minimum wage income any time soon is pretty low.

  • I feel like even if Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg worked together on it, they would have a tough time going through 50 pounds of weed in a couple months.

Like even if they're crazy and they each go through an ounce a day, that's a little less than a pound every two weeks, Which would mean that this is at least a two-year supply of weed for both Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg at the same time.

  • I think gadgets and gizmos are in the same general category, but gadgets tend to be more mechanically operated and gizmos tend to be more electrically operated.

Like a wrist-mounted crossbow would be a gadget, whereas a wrist-mounted laser would be a gizmo.

  • I think if you watch Severance, he does a really good job of changing your perspective, because I had the same feeling going into Severance, and now I feel different.

  • Same for Brent Spiner as Data.
