  • Thanks :) I usually use hoisin even though it's Chinese.

There is a thin sauce I've seen used but I haven't looked up what it us or how to make. I've been meaning to but I always forget.

I'll give the one you posted a try.

  • I just started reading The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin. I've only read the first chapter.

I'm also reading the Collected Ficions by Jorge Luis Borges. I've only read a few but I'm enjoying them.

  • Ah, thanks for the knowledge.

I guess I should find a recipe that uses okra next time. :)

  • I shared it with family but I primarily made it for my want to try gumbo.

  • I am unsure why its called gumbo. I also don't know if there's a vegetable with that name.

  • Do I count?

  • Haha thanks! For some reason tostadas aren't as popular outside of Mexico unless you have proximity to Mexicans. They are very simple but also very good.

People in the US sometimes call them chalupas but those are actually something else. Here are some authentic chicken tostada recipes from books my mother has that are older than me.

    "CHICKEN TOSTADAS

    Ingredients:

    Cooked and shredded chicken breast

    2 tablespoons of oil

    1 large tomato

    1 clove of garlic

    4 green chiles

1/2 sliced onion, cream to taste

    12 tostadas

    1/2 chopped lettuce

    Sliced avocado

    Salt to taste

    Preparation:

In a skillet with the oil, fry the onion until translucent.

Separately, blend the tomato with the garlic, chiles, and salt.

Strain the mixture and pour it into the skillet with the onion. Let it simmer for 5 minutes over low heat. Add the cream and mix well. Remove from heat.

Cover the tostadas with lettuce and top with some of the mixture. Garnish with avocado.

    Serve immediately"

    "CHICKEN AND CREAM TOSTADAS

    INGREDIENTS:

    12 tostadas

    2 shredded chicken breasts

    1 crumbled queso fresco

    2 tablespoons chopped onion

    PROCEDURE:

    1 shredded lettuce

1 small can of jalapeño pepper strips

    salt, as needed.

Fry the tostadas just enough to soften them when heated, then drain.

Top each tostada with cream, chicken, cheese, onion, lettuce, and a few jalapeño pepper strips, and salt to taste. Serve immediately"

  • All of this looks delicious.

  • I would say that it cooking the seafood with vegetables is Asian inspired from the different videos I've seen of Asian cooking.

Obviously the specific ingredients are not accurate but it was still very good.
