Housemaids were hurrying homewards with their purchases for various Gallic breakfasts, and the long sticks of bread, a yard or two in length, carried under their arms, made an odd impression upon me.

– Louis Charles Elson (1898)

  • If someone is really invested with the environment and climate, they should at the least have some awareness of the consequences of meat consumption. In that case, why do others have to keep holding their hand? The world wide web is full of delicious vegan/vegetarian recipes. Why does individual responsibility/initiative stop when one is convinced that reducing a luxury good is the best option?

And there are so many options to improve. Flexitarian, pescaterian, vegetarian, plant-based or vegan. I believe it helps to not let perfect be the enemy of good. It might also depend a bit on what convictions you want to change. If climate and/or health, it might give a bit more leniency; if animal wellfare it is likely to be a strict regime.

(keep in mind, the above is about those who say to care for the environement/climate)

  • Thanks for the insight!

  • Maybe a stupid question, but could this work with a playstation too?

  • Ah okay, I wasn't aware of that. I hope you find a safe alternative!

  • I found this article interesting because big tech seems to care so much about scanning, that they are pushing on this.

Unfortunately the article doesn't really delve into the privacy precedents and implications it would set, and mostly voices the arguments of big tech.

‘Irresponsible failure’: Google, Meta, Snap and Microsoft slam EU over child sexual abuse law lapse

  • If the US pulls out, NATO could continue existing with current members. I'd like to see a European Military Union (part of the EU) which in its turn is part of NATO, but NATO itself doesn't need replacing. Let's also hope the US will at some point return to democratic values and be a supporting member of international organisations again. I hope other countries (especially European) have learned that alliances have weaknesses, especially when you put all faith on one single country.

  • He has to represent the interests of all NATO states, not just the US'. He may not have to criticise US' stance on things, but he neither has to embody them. I can't remember Stoltenberg doing any of this, and being accused of not doing his job.

Also, Dutch media have been pushing a frame that Rutte is carved out for this job so hard, that when he finally became SG they kept defending the despicable things he has said. All those slimey words do not even seem to be effective, as Trump keeps threatening Greenland and abandoning NATO.

  • [T]elling the astronauts how much they deserved the honor of the president seeking their autographs.

This was what I was thinking when listening to the call. Everyone is celebrating the courage of these astronauts, but unsurprisingly Trump rather praises himself..

Ps. I like to believe that the silence near the end of the call wasn't a technical issue.

  • Gorgeous! A similar style exists of Maastricht. I'll check later if I can find it.

Okay, there are other maps that have a similar style, but I was thinking of this one made by Blaeu and his son[^otherversions].

[^otherversions]: The folder I found it in on Wikimedia with other versions and crops.

  • This interview (Dutch) with the investor should, in my opinion, scare people away from it. It's just a bunch of none-answers and uncertainty

Q: Is that your plan with Office EU too? To sell it after a few years?

A: Tja, I am not sure about that. I can't see that far into the future, I don't know.

Q: So which apps don’t use Nextcloud?

    A: Once we’re live, I’ll show you.

Q: Have you written any code around it yourselves?

A: A great deal has been written around it. (This is literally the whole answer to that question)

Q: Could you give an example of that? Will that be open source too?

Q: Well, look, you know what it is? I don’t really feel comfortable talking about this. You approached me. I’m saying: I’m not actually ready for this yet, because we’re sorting out a few things.

  • Let's hope it's an accident. I have an app that allows for voting by swiping on a comment/post. It used to be quite sensitive and I found out I had down/up voted unintentionally when swiping back a couple of times.

  • I'd rather support Environmental Party the Greens (MDG) who also support EU membership, but it is one of a few topics I can agree with Høyre (Norwegian People's Party) on. Venstre (social liberals, confusingly named Left) and the Labour Party are generally also pro-EU.

According to this article voter support is 1) MDG, 2) Labour, 3) Venstre, 4) Høyre. This article is from last year, however. 'Yes to EU' is in minority again (51 against, 33 support).

  • Giving in to the far-right will only lead to the nomalisation of dehumanising immigrants and asylum seekers. Maybe they should try reducing the wealth-gap instead of blaming a small group of vulnerable people.

  • They also take in consideration whether the chips can be produced with fairly paid labour (to a certain level). I believe they have once stated that this was an important reason not to use some chips.

  • It annoys me when people say she is not as populist as feared, based on that she is supporting Ukraine and not anti-EU, while in Italy she is pushing hard against migrants, asylum seekers, and the LGBTQ+community.
