Software Engineer. FOSS Enthusiast. Book worm.

  • That's just one specific issue. It doesn't mean that the whole plasma wayland session is a pain. Been using it for more than a year now.

  • I was also getting panics on 2 of my systems on Linux 6.3.9 but hasn't happened on 6.4

  • Of course they need the software and that's why they contribute to make it better. That's how most of the FOSS development works anyway. People have an 'itch' to fix the issues or add a feature and they do it and the license makes sure that others benefit from that itch.

  • Apart from RHEL, RedHat contributes to hundreds of FOSS projects and hires a lot of FOSS devs. So their contribution in progressing the desktop linux is huge. You can see the contributions to the various project here: https://www.redhat.com/en/about/open-source-program-office/contributions

Believe it or not corporates play a big role in making Linux what it is and their enshittification is bad for Linux ecosystem.

Sad that RedHat went this way.

  • When was the last time you tried? And which GPU?

  • I understand and X works fine for a lot od people but do remember the number of developers maintaining it have been dropping year on year. No harm in trying IMO. If you are on Plasma or Gnome, you get a simple switcher on the login screen.

  • Well the aim is to sanitize the code and move some of the unnecessary boot procedures to a later stage of start up. I don't think boot times differences would be noticable.

  • IMO for now, post everything on this community itself as it is not that active. We can slowly diversify into niches but we first need to improve interaction.

  • First they went after Vanced, now Invidious. With the ongoing recession, companies are realising that less and less people would be be willing to pay for subscriptions and to increase their revenue they are going to tie all the loose ends they have allowed over the years.

  • I am not aware of any call blocker. Sorry!

  • Jerboa. I am really hopeful for its development. Each release is going to get a lot of fixes and improvements. It is a satisfying feeling to see software grow and improve.

  • Are the gestures 1 to 1?

  • I have 2 laptops (work and personal) and both run Arch Linux.

    Reason:

    • Rolling release
    • AUR
    • ArchWiki
  • Afaik Ubuntu follows a different vereioning scheme for kernels, so I am not sure when you will get 6.5 or 6.6 patches.

  • As stated in the article, it can be picked up in 6.5 if it is ready or later if there are changes needed.
