  • The Netherlands.

Had gall stones fucking with me. Had 3 attacks happen in the middle of the night over a 8 month period which resulted in me showing up to the ER due to sweating bullets of pain. They got worried one day due to high infection counters in the blood, but it actually was fine by the time they checked again.

With gall stones, you need to have "enough attacks" before they refer they let you rip the fucker out. So eventually I got referred. 4 week waiting time from consult to operation (just coming out of corona time late 2021, not sure if that matters). Had a secondary infection around my navel which resulted in 6 weeks of manual flushing the wound and had to reopen it due to external skin healing too quick.

All of this cost €385, which was my "own risk" which resets every calendar year. All vists (even middle of the night), surgery, post care (even infection stuff) included. I never once thought about the cost, and the bill comes 6-9 months later.

(Note, you do pay for medical insurance here, however it is required by law to have it. People get fines if they dont have it. Subsidies/free for low incomes. Its essentially tax at the end etc. All "base insurance" from all providers must cover 100% GP costs, and a bunch of other things).

  • So much this.

After working in tech companies for the last 10 years I've noticed the difference between people that "generate code" and those that engineer code.

My worry about the industry is that vibe coding gives the code generators the ability to generate even more code. The engineers (even those that use vibe tools) are not engineering as much code by volume compared to "the generators".

My hope is that this is one of those "short term gain, long term pain" things that might self correct in a couple of years 🤞.

  • Just a smol bramble.

    • all is PoE. One head node which has a USB ssd. No SD cards.
    • DH2300, with 2x2TB drives in Raid 1.

All is network booted from the head node. Had to mess around with iscsi mounted root because i'm running k3s, and it needs block devices.

Offsite backup with a Hetzner storage box.

  • Totally agree. I saw some people doing just plain text messaging and it looked fairly snappy. I assume we're miles away from the idea of pushing pixels on LoRa for a while.

  • Fair, however the meshcore gateway drug starter kit is like 40eur 😅.

  • Selfhosted @lemmy.world

Does self hosting your own internet count?

  • Exactly this. And if they ask "oh but why not". You just answer "I just dont want to be on your social media". You never have to validate your reasoning for saying no.

If they push the why, then ask them if they're genuinely interested in the answer before giving one. Force them to be a part of the conversation, because why people ask "aww why not", its not because they're interested in the answer, its because they wanta yes. Just say no.

  • This person arrives at 10, has a 1.5hour lunch, talks loudly around other people, leaves at 2 because needs to pick up the dog from the dog sitter, complains people are never in the office, only shows up 2 days a week if you're unlucky, 0 days if you're lucky.

  • Piling on another comment to say that lurking here feels much nicer than on reddit. The comments are actually worth reading a lot of the time. RiF going down was a dark day, but Jerboa and Lemmy make everything light.

  • That can also be true. But what if corruption was a feature of capitalism. Not saying that it is unique to capitalism.

  • What if... Capitalism alwayd leads to unchecked corruption.

  • Sounds like they have bins inside. That is responsible no?

You have the right to purchase something, doesn't mean you have the right of convenience.

  • Yo, are you okay?

  • Hey Bud. You okay?

This reads like you're feeling defeated. It's okay to have hope that the world can get better, even if it feels like the dark days.

  • Who you vote for does not imply who you are in bed with. Unless you like sewing discourse

  • Thanks for voting! I didn't see it in your OP, and I dont keep track of what Lemmy users say across posts.

Im not a centerist. However there is a time and a place with everything in life. November 6th I'm ready to start promoting a new voting system and changing whats causing this mess.

  • Vote this election then. And then campaign after the election. What's stopping you from being the change later? Why teach the a lesson now, when the alternative is Drumpf?

  • I have not seen many leftists not agree that both votes are for genocide - that's just a given.

But protesting the system during the election is daft. Do you want genocide, or more genocide? You are not a slave to the system if you vote and then actually do something about it to change it.

Ignoring the current system is plain ignorance. Voting doesn't make you a slave. Voting and giving up makes you a slave. How about vote and campaign for change instead. Despair does not lead to change.
