  • Not sure who to believe. SatansMaggotyCumFart, or Dave.

  • Bro have you been reading the news? The West basically hates America right now. Actively ramping up funding arms and software intiatives to de-american their supply chains.

  • I can’t tell if you’re being facetious or not. The world runs on containerisation… you can totally package, ship, and run software using docker images.

  • Wait till you hear about how much money oil and gas gets from tour taxes in the form of tax breaks. And how much it’d cost if you also had to pay for the damage it did when burning it.

  • I think thats really fair too. I might adopt that for my startup.

  • Yeah same. We’re comfortably a 200k house hold when both of us are working. We've got enough. But rich to me would be being able to take some time off and spend time with my kids and not worry about setting my retirement back meaningfully.

  • Cant believe those idiots thought the power button would control power to the device. What idiots.

  • Only doing a bit of heavy lifting there.

  • IME maybe? But coreboot can solve those things.

  • Awww you two. This is why i love lemmy. Two randoms arguing over some super specific personal preferences :)

  • I was like. Wtf did the European Union do to Star Wars?!

  • Im using a super modern Thinkpad with Linux. But I have some old options too. I also have a 2015 Macbook Pro running Ubuntu 26.04.

  • I mean. Fiat are owned by Stellantis. They also make this:

  • I must have had 6 thinkpads by now. All have been excellent linux machines.

  • NZ job seeker benefit system definitely would not let you do this lol. You've clearly never been through it.

You're not paying rent, eating well, and sipping wine on $360 per week lol.

  • I’ve run Ubuntu servers for over a decade in some very large and demanding environments and have had so few issues with the OS itself.

Lemmy has a hate boner for Canonical, and Ubuntu, but the reality is this is an echo chamber. Ubuntu has been run in basically every corner of the globe for some of the most critical work human kind has, and it could be so easily swapped for Debian. But it isn't.

  • Yeah. I haven't had an issue with sleep for years at this point. Long line of Lenovos running Ubuntu.

  • Tbf. The american system is fine if you can afford to pay. And you’re always welcome to private care in countries with universal care.

One distro for the next five years?
