  • I’m not sure they are lying. Yes, they’re not E2E but I don’t think they claim to be by default, do they?

they claim to be "encrypted". if I just make a new chat it will not be encrypted. this is false advertising. furthermore this highly advertised feature has artificial limitations, like that desktop clients can't use it. it also cannot he used with group chats. so much for being "encrypted".

  • Unless you intend to check their identity every single time they log in.

or rather every single second the device is being used

  • isn't patents the reason fedora doesn't have hardware accelerated codecs? mesa has the drivers, fedora just doesn't compile those drivers in

  • steam os can be modified, but chromeos is explicitly locoed down. yet, people say even steam os might not be exempted by this

  • what's worth considering is even on android forks that are deemed foss, they need lots of driver blobs for all the hardware, and some people intentionally install google servives via opengapps. how will those count for this law?

and then don't forget that due to drivers, relatively few open source desktop installations are fully open source

  • I don't like laptops and such in schools, but kids ARE going to need to know how to use them to be successful and that's something a lot of parents can't teach.

they won't learn from a chromebook how to use computers. They'll only learn how to be a good slave in google's cloud based walled garden. those devices are too locked down to be used for teaching computers.

  • now try explaining that to a kid. it'll maybe stick in high school.

  • probably even with duck.ai. nobody could prove they are doing it, even if they are doing it

I don't use any of tiktok or meta but I believe tiktok is more addictive by design.

  • fret not, 5G antennas are built more densely and they are using higher frequencies

  • We already consent to giving away all that data, which basic ping triangulation also allows for fairly granular location tracking.

very few people did consent to that.

or are you saying that if I unknowingly drink poisoned water, I did consent to that?

  • these are not just motion sensors. these are much more accurate than that.

  • that's not a sufficient fix when you are living very close to other households

  • that's a load bearing "yet"

  • does not matter if the factory software just uploads the info because you wouldn't know anyway

  • the devices can still record more accurate motion information for sale

  • I would expect them having access to that anyway when they control the device, or when they are the manufacturer

  • are you sure it works that way?

  • and how do you protect yourself against the neighbors devices, especially in a densely populated building

  • what about egg him on, and then stand up and walk away. if you are already there, don't waste the once in a lifetime opportunity
