You're right. This is homophobia at 200%. By describing Pride City, the author created a grotesque caricature of pride parades. (That's why they look and behave like Mr. Slave from South Park).
However, in the same novel, he portrays an erotic lesbian scene involving one of the main heroines completely without any irony.
