I think Bungie were desperate for Trials of Osiris to be some sort of eSports juggernaut, but they could never ever get the balance right so tried and have seemingly failed with Marathon. Only thing that can save Bungie now is either a totally new IP with massive backing or Destiny 3 and to not make the same mistakes. They wouldn't even need to change the engine. No one ever complained about the graphics or sound or gameplay in D1 and 2. Just do 3, with none of the bullshit of the last 12 years.
You just know its going to be an early access, live service game.
