  • Hmm... Show me one post one ml with a call to action in the last 7 days

  • Communists are absolutely interested in being politically effective.

Tankies and online lefties are only interested in the esthetic of communism. They are not interested in platforming the mechanisms to promote the change needed. It's a fun game to toy and muse with but it has no direction or real world benefits. The discourse never branches out beyond the evils of western hegemony, because that would require concrete thinking and real world politicking, and we can't have that, can we? That would mean an end to the fun little circus that is Lemmy.ml

  • Being authoritarian is not a preclusion for being anti-western hegemony.

  • They are not communists or socialists. They are campists.

The mistake is assuming they care about the political idealogy they ascribe to. They exist exclusively as an oppositional force to whatever the West represents. The reality is that if the Western hegemony disappeared tomorrow, they would lose their entire raison d'etre. They dont care at all about the principles of communism. It's an esthetic that they can bury themselves in order to criticize the West.

Because engaging with the reality of effecting the goals of communism would entail coming to face with the brutal process of realizing effective change. You know, being politically effective. That would undermine the entire movement and modus operandi.

  • No. Nowhere in their post did they define authoritarianism. That's a strawman. Engage with the content, don't deflect

  • I think the party is going to evolve despite the apathy of online lefties. Fingers crossed. Boomers have to die at some point.

It's interesting watching the lefties already turning on Mamdani (we're not even a year into his first term)

  • No, it debunks the appeal to nature as a basis for ethics and civilization

  • Yes. Community is good. I totally agree. The difference is conservatives vote. Lefties are actively non participants in the "duopoly". But there is no alternative path discussed either. That would require facing the real world

  • Cool, now overlap with the paths of migratory animals

  • Correct, but it's sort of self inflicted because the high level discourse is what's valuable here. Would you like to dissect the labor theory of value? You're in the right place!

  • The memes are distraction fodder. It's like an amusement park so we never move into prescriptive discourse

  • Lemmy is quickly becoming (maybe it always was) a self masturbatory exercise in anti-capitalist Marxist thought. Don't get me wrong, we need to fight capitalism at every moment. This is THE moment.

However, what I've gleaned is that the discussion here cannot step away from theory into the realm of prescriptions. Because prescriptions would entail confronting the harsh reality of the real world and end the little intellectual amusement park that are the lefty anti-capitalist memes.

In other words, Lemmy is acting exactly as designed: a containment space for tankie and lefties to never have to contend with real world actions. Billionaires love spaces like Lemmy because if we ever move the conversation away from memes, thats when they start shaking. But they know exactly that won't happen in places like Lemmy. The merry-go-round is just so much fun!

  • The Expanse

  • Wow. So brave

  • What ought the Democrats do when they are a minority? Can you like... Give an example? I'm genuinely curious

  • I don't know if appropriate to mention this, but I switched to a NAS server with Emby+Soulseek. I'm using online platforms to discover new music. Otherwise I used Qobuz before and really liked it but it was a bit expensive

  • This stopped working for me after a while. I think they caught on to it

  • "but don't you know it's just the duopoly behaving as designed; wake up man". I've heard all the arguments.

  • So just curious, what does the DINUM do exactly?
