  • I try to time my bathroom breaks with an empty glass. Then all I have to do is let people around me know that I’m coming back, so they don't offer my spot to random assholes.

I trust some people sometimes, but depends on the place and who is sitting next to me. Big biker dude who’s wildly intimidating but doesn't give me any bad vibes? Ill chance it if they are with a group and there aren’t reasonable looking ladies nearby (part of the group and i trust the group a lot more). Intimidating biker dudes genuinely tend to be good people, idk why, but they do. Moreso than your average pickup driver, for sure. Maybe because motorcycles tend to be community-based activities? Idk. Any insight would be helpful.

  • It’s still wild to me that many parts of the developed world simply don't use screens on windows.

But from what I can tell its also mostly places where people don't even have AC because it simply never gets that hot.

Must be nice. (I don't have AC yet, but I'm an outlier in my area, and I hope to add it this year because a heat pump would be an absolute blessing even if I still need to use my gas furnace as backup)

  • Test taking is a skill mostly unrelated to knowledge of information, and that absolutely sucks.

Im highly skilled with test-taking, and I’m not saying I'm dumb, but that skill is only useful for so long. If you have dumb corpo tests to take for IT or to land the job, golden. Need to apply skills? Shit we really didn’t teach that did we?

Standardization will be the knowledge death of us.

  • I have lead pipes feeding my house so I installed an RO unit shortly after moving in, and frankly, treated tap water just tastes bad to me now. I know it’s fine to drink, technically, but ungh. Yuck.

If yours has a tank and you maintain the system yourself, do make sure to clean it out yearly. I was not aware, for many years, that you need to bleach the tank periodically to prevent pathogen growth, but yes you very much do and it is very important, so do make sure you look into how to do that for your specific system. :)

  • I have chocolate mint and I find its not as hardy as other varieties.

It does really well with fairly wet and shady conditions (I had it under my elevated rain barrels and it did great, but didn't spread beyond that) and poorly otherwise (since moving the rain barrels and exposing it to constant sun, it doesn't want to grow much at all, much less spread).

Idk how much that’ll help your quest, but perhaps it will :)

  • Do you happen to have a citation for this? I’m interested because those are the exact opposite effects I need, (I need appetite stimulation and couchlock/relaxation for sleep), and the dispensaries I'm heading to in a couple weeks maaaaay be able to help with that.

  • Theres a remaster of it now, too :)

  • Pipelines also cause a resonance hum that some people CAN hear for miles, and it drives them batshit.

  • Fun story - my house has a hidden room sort of. I’ve known about it since I bought the place like 15 years ago. I plan to convert it into a root cellar/storm shelter/bug out room since its in a very secure part of the basement.

I didn't know there was a half-size wooden door hidden behind the partly-finished basement drywall (previously a rec room/office), i just knew about the shitty door cut into the side of the stairs. Never had a reason to go inside there with a light prior to that, and its entirely hidden from the existing door. Only found it while preparing the space for my chickens to ride out a brutal cold snap this past winter.

Its jambed on both sides to prevent swing and never had hardware, but I can drill and hang it pretty easily. Then i really will make it a hidden room someone will find randomly someday

  • Thats a solid point. I don't have friends in the area to bring into that plan, but no reason I can’t go hang out away from home for the day all the same. I enjoyed the subway when I visited Boston, partly because I didn't really have anywhere specific I needed to be, just exploration.

  • If mine are any indication, they’ll go hunting for bugs before they start scratching at stuff or eating plants. Even when I give mine pulled weeds the first thing they do is look for bugs on them. Those are the real prize.

They have an amazing eye for slight movement, and are quite good little hunters (they really like catching mice as well). If you don't give them time to destroy everything, and keep your eyes on them.

As a bonus they poop while they eradicate, and they do some mild scratching of the surface which is good for the soil.

  • I just found out that I qualify to use public transit for free in my area.

It’s thus a damned shame I basically never see a bus. I hate driving, but public transit here isn't much of an alternative.

Still, i’ll probably go ride it around for no real reason just to increase the use of it, since it runs anyway. More riders means more expansion of services, right? Riiiiiiight?

  • Yeah.. tax the rich is the nicest thing we could be saying.. they’ve definitely forgotten…

  • Oooooooh let it be something class action I can get money for. I have three rokus and a TCL.

Granted, none of them are on my network; the rokus were removed from it when that update came out that would brick the tv if you don't accept them spying (fortunately roku was blocked on my pihole except occasionally when they wanted to be updated to repair the apps that stopped working every month forcing online connection to syphon data) and the TCL was never allowed on the network in the first place because i learned my lesson..

But I still want money back from them for their anti-consumer choices, because fuck them.

  • This would be much cooler with random layers scattered through it that were also tipped the same way.

The single fringe edge doesn’t really provide enough…. Depth? To fulfill the illusion, and while I see it also appears to follow the front layers up, the back still needs more, imo.

  • It would be hilarious if this backfired and got people all riled up for DC statehood. In a FAFO sort of way.

  • It also helps (when combined with a tiny amount, like 1/64 tsp, of bone meal) with chronic diarrhea. I had a cat who was sick for a long time and his food needed both in order to firm up his stools enough to express his anal glands naturally.

  • Sucks to be in an area that never had these to begin with, cuz I've never seen one. I like weird “obsolete” architecture like this, but businesses typically don't bother adapting buildings the way they used to anymore. Only new buildings get any personalization, and it tends to be minimal these days. Like a Mexican restaurant bought a building that used to be a supper club*, and they didn't even bother to re-paint the interior, so it just looks like a lightly mexican-themed supper club now. Just no effort at all anymore.

*For those not in areas with proper supper clubs, which is the vast majority of the world since they are almost exclusively found in the Midwest US (the UK version of them is something entirely different, and I've no idea how common they are), they are cozy little dinner spots where you are more or less expected to sit and have a few drinks and socialize before your meal, such that they don't really have music, take your order at the bar, and you move to the table when your meal is ready. Typically the best food around without breaking the bank, especially in small towns, most have a salad bar, decent community environment, reasonable prices sort of thing, so very very popular. In Wisconsin at least, always fish fry on Fridays, and prime rib on Saturdays and often Sundays, but can’t get those things the rest of the week. Just how they operate. Sometimes a limited fish fry is available on Wednesdays, though.
