  • You're really narrowing down a much much bigger issue to try and make it digestible. But the patriarchy is systemic. Misogyny is systemic. Male privilege is systemic. Gamergate is a symptom, and honestly, a mild one at that.

  • Patriarchy.

Privilege and with it an overinflated sense of entitlement, which result in the most fragile of egos (E: see downvote ration lmao).

    That's at best.

At worst, and on top of the above, is conscious and deliberate misogyny and the unwillingness to give the privileges up.

This is the teeny-tiniest tip of the iceberg, but it sounds like you are willing to challenge your views and perceptions, so jump in, it (E: patriarchy, misogyny, feminism, intersectionality, and on and on..) is a terrifying, but also extremely well documented rabbit hole, just start looking..

  • Lefty Memes @lemmy.dbzer0.com

    Do it

  • A Boring Dystopia @lemmy.world

From this day in 1933. It's all just a little bit of history repeating..

  • I haven't debated them though? I called them transphobes, left 3 links for the sake of anyone who might be reading their nonsense and want some correct information, blocked them all, and reported the issue.

  • Those are not inherently the same,

Yes, they are, like I said, you don't have to mean it to be transphobic for it to be transphobic. People who are ignorant and get called out who don't want to be transphobes will admit ignorance, apologise, and improve their behaviour. Anything else makes a person a transphobe, no matter how uncomfortable that makes you.

  • Fantastic. We can only hope that the lemm.ee team take a similar stance against this user, but I won't hold my breath.

  • Transphobia is transphobia whether the person doing it means for it to be or not.

  • And yet? I want everybody to shut up about it because we have far more pressing issues at hand. When it comes to women’s sports the public has made up their mind and the facts don’t matter.

So do I, which is why I reported those comments to be removed, but then realised that the only mod in the community agrees, and so they wouldn't only not be removed, but more of them would be encouraged, which I think is unacceptable, especially if the instance hosting them has rules against bigotry, which is what this is.

  • Meta (lemm.ee) @lemm.ee

    Do you allow transphobic mods?

  • Flippanarchy @lemmy.dbzer0.com

This is of course a feature, not a bug.

  • No, you bootlickers can repeat the same bullshit party lines and shove your heads up your ass as far as you please to maintain your personal comfort and shield yourself from reality (and from those actually responsible for and who benefit from fascism, which you miraculously never confront or even hold accountable, and are freely willing to compromise with give in to), but that doesn't change it - participating in an oppressive system, and voting for one of either oppressive parties designated to you by those benefiting from that system to placate you with an illusion of choice is literally the opposite of protesting said system (E: never even mind that the idea that you can vote fascism away is beyond ignorant and laughable in its own right, it's demonstrably wrong)

TL;DR: your vote didn't protest shit, it was manufactured consent for the status quo, get off your fucking high horse

  • So... Don't protest* evil. Got it. 🙄

(*on a more serious note, you having a narrow and wilfully ignorant view of what protesting actually means doesn't change the fact that not protesting evil makes you complicit with it)

  • Without fucking fail.

And all with an overinflated and unearned sense of self righteousness to replace the deep sense of irony, and shame, they should be feeling.

  • Voting (and in any other way participating) in an oppressive system (E: and for an oppressive party, either way) is literally the opposite of protesting it.

    Welcome to the point lmao

Pretending not to pick a side IS picking a side

  • Flippanarchy @lemmy.dbzer0.com

    Instead of punching nazis..

  • Stay as safe as you possibly can comrades, arm yourselves if you can, look out for those who can't, and organise (E: create safe spaces to meet council and support each other, especially those who also face racism and or the risk of deportation, safe houses where people can live if they can't stay where they are, pantries and kitchens to feed people who are struggling, get basic medical training so you can try to help if someone is hurt and the hospitals aren't safe, provide care and support to those most vulnerable like the very young, old, and or disabled, train on the weapons you are able to get a hold of and learn self defence and attack tactics, learn how to make your own weapons, disrupt and resist wherever you can, and so on...)

  • I personally downvoted it because it's a terrible idea, op wants to leave the US, not sign their life and soul away to it.

  • Flippanarchy @lemmy.dbzer0.com

Not only in the US, it is a universal fiction

What they say vs what they mean

  • Lefty Memes @lemmy.dbzer0.com

So much for the tolerant left

  • I dont know how to respond to that to be honest.

Of course you don't since you're clearly incapable of shutting up and listening. That's literally all it takes.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wanted to hear what you had to say

Lmfao, prove it. I told you what I had to say, and you're clearly not interested in hearing it at all, nor in investing any of your own time or energy in to informing yourself.

Never mind who wholly inappropriate it is to even come on to a post like this in the first place expecting people to expend emotional labour on you.

So again - you not wanting to hear is a you problem, not an available information problem, and definitely not my problem or the problem of other trans and or otherwise marginalised people.

We don't owe you shit, if you actually care you do your own fucking work.

    Oh, and also

  • I’m not from America so have no skin in the game, and for all intents and purposes you’d look at me and see a cis dude.

as I said, I’ve already got an opinion based on where I’m from

And yet here you are, demanding emotional labour from people who very much do have skin in the game and are hurting and have better things to do than to spoon feed you information you've already admitted to not being open to hear.

Take this as a learning opportunity - open a search engine of your choice, and start doing your own work. The people you want to hear from have and continue to speak up (E: hell, you could even scroll maybe a page or two through my profile, as a person whose opinions you seem interested in, but not interested enough to lift a finger, and find plenty of places to get you started). You not wanting to make any effort to listen is a you problem, not a lack of available information problem.

  • Oh, sorry if I wasn't clear - the downvotes are clearly coming from (almost certainly) cis people who are more uncomfortable being confronted with the fact that they can't vote fascism away (and are happy to scapegoat those oppressed by it most), than they are with the ongoing oppression of trans people (which definitely didn't start with trump, and definitely wouldn't have stopped if Kamala had been elected).

Definitely wasn't thinking it was folks from within the community.

  • This is horrifying but sadly not surprising, and only the beginning. So while it's good that their legal teams are trying their best to help, it feels like there isn't going to be much they can do (in terms of lawyering) to stop this.

I hope at least some local groups are organising direct action, and would be glad to send them some funds if anyone knows of any.

  • Seriously.. Getting really sick of this latest form of gaslighting "you'd have been fine under Kamala!!!11", "if only you people voted to stop fascism!!1". Yeah, no.

It's the height of fucking privilege and wilful ignorance to think fascism can be voted away, and combination "I don't care about or have paid any attention to your continued oppression" and "you're to blame for me being slightly uncomfortable right now, not the people openly trying to kill you". (E: the angry downvotes are a great demonstration of that last point especially, thanks!)

    Fuck that.
