  • Whether they call it Unreal Engine 5.9 or 6 doesn't really matter in regards to fixing UE's issues. At some point they'll make the version jump.

That's not to say they'll definitely fix the issues in UE 6 though. I guess we'll see.

  • Is that really the point in that moment though? They didn't invite you so you could teach them how to cook, but to spend time with you and have friendly conversations. Saying that would really only serve to ruin the day for them, and possibly for yourself as well depending on how they'll react.

  • Doesn’t have a shit QC (8bitdo’s are apparently like that)

Can't confirm. I own 3 controllers, a keyboard, a numpad and a mouse by 8bitdo. None of them have any hardware issues. Only issue is that the software is meh and Windows/Mac-only. But it's a plug-and-play controller, so you really don't need the software unless you want to do stuff like define macros (which you can just use Steam input for).

  • FreeCAD. It's janky, absolutely, but it's quite powerful once you get used to it. Improved a lot with the latest major update as well.

I also tried OpenSCAD for a bit. As someone with a programming background, I really like the principle of how it works. But ultimately, I found it way too limiting.

  • As for the location, since after the collapse, hungry crowds will rob villages and farms that they can reach or know about, I will have to build a house from scratch somewhere a hundred kilometers from cities and civilization

I actually think places like villages are your best bet. An organized rural community of a few hundred people will be much better off than a single person or household living alone in the wilderness. You can share the work required and you'll have a safety net in case anything goes wrong, like if you've been injured for example. You can also organize defence by putting up guards etc.

  • Love those games. Bringing them to a larger audience is ultimately a good thing, but I think they'll lose quite a bit of their impact without the VR aspect.

  • Nice, looking forward to this on Steam Deck.

  • Do you use a configuration that mixes gamepad with mouse or keyboard input, like "Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad" or something like that? Some games can't handle those configurations, causing some strange behaviours.

  • If I had a nickel every time a new user comes to asklemmy assuming it's some kind of generative AI support forum... I'd probably have at least 10 nickels from those that I've seen? Which is honestly very strange. Do LLMs recommend Lemmy for that or something?

Anyway, it says it right there. Can't declare the same variable twice, so delete or rename one of them.

  • So with a similar distance, my controller fluctuates between "ok" and "weak" reported connection strength. However, I haven't experienced it ever dropping or doubling an input, so I don't think that part is normal behaviour. Can even use it from the next room, with a solid wall in-between.

Have you tried different USB ports? My controller initially had some (different) issues when the puck was in the "wrong" USB port.

  • His legacy already seems plenty tarnished tbf.

  • Being supportive can also mean helping them see the problem.

  • Unless there's a concrete reason to do that, I don't see why they would. Python isn't outdated, it's actively supported and one of the most widely used programming languages in the world. It has arguably never been more relevant than it is now, due to its use in ML development. Just because it's technically older doesn't mean that it's worse. That's just not how programming languages work.

  • Pretty sure it does have an LED that can light up in different colors to indicate errors, as well as a PC speaker connector for acoustic error codes. Presumably you mean an actual display that shows the POST code? Personally I've never had that on any mainboard in 15+ years of building PCs and it has never been an issue.

  • For probably >50% of artists I listen to, I never could have discovered them in record stores, either because they never had widely available physical releases at all, or only in their home countries. And my friends have pretty different musical tastes from myself.

Recently went through my parents' old vinyl record collection though, after fixing up their record player from the 70s. There's definitely something special about discovering music through physical media, looking at the album art, reading the booklets etc.

  • Well, if the article is any indication...

Planned revivals of classic franchises such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage remain in production, Sega said.

  • There's definitely truth to that and I'm currently building up a local library of music to put on my dedicated music player.

On the other hand, I do like the ease of discovery with streaming. I didn't listen to a lot of music in the pre-streaming days, because the only easy way to discover artists was by listening to the radio, which was mostly music I didn't love. I have to admit that I only found much of the music I now like thanks to streaming.

  • Over 100 developers who were working on free-to-play titles have already been transferred to ‘Full Game’ development teams, “focusing on mainstay IPs”, according to the company.

Good to see them doing that instead of massive layoffs.

  • I've always found it fun how in Germanic (and Romance) languages, we still honor the old gods when it comes to the days of the week. Like wednesday being "Wodan's/Odin's day" and thursday being "Thor's day". I wonder how many devout christians realize this.

I also think the etymology of the German word "Buchstaben" (letter, as in a,b,c) is pretty interesting. It literally means "beech rod" and goes back all the way to Germanic tribespeople carving runes into rods made from beechwood.
