  • Our loft got so hot during the day it set off the heat alarm up there. Absolutely nuts.

  • TOS used a completely different warp scale with no upper maximum, hence the higher numbers in use.

When they made TNG they redesigned the scale to be exponential, with warp 10 being the upper limit because at that point the object has infinite velocity and exists everywhere simultaneously.

  • I realise it’s not really the point here, but calling Jeffrey Epstein a celebrity seems comically reductive.

Like, yeah, technically I guess it’s true? But it’s not the word that springs to mind when most people think of him. Made me chuckle.

  • I did not! I actually had one back in the day and never had battery issues, but pretty funny to hear it was a common complaint.

(Still, I think the broader point stands.)

  • Given the pace of technological progress, I doubt a phone bought today will be all that useful (except as a retro novelty) in 20 years time, let alone 100.

How many people do you think are still daily-driving a Motorola KRZR? It’s not because of the battery life.

  • But that would interfere with our existing and objectively perfect system: ignore/procrastinate until the ice gets so thick the door doesn’t close, at which point the freezer defrosts itself.

Sure, you lose all the food inside, but it’s one less chore to worry about!

  • Well, sort of. While it does refer to horses, it’s actually a reference to how their gums recede as they get older, making the teeth look longer (at least according to Brewer’s).

  • the second 15-year-old had an IQ in the “bottom 1% of his contemporaries”

‘My client is too stupid to go to prison, your honour.’

  • Idiots misinterpret thing.

This isn’t news; it’s barely-disguised rage bait designed to make you angry.

… and now I’m angry about it, so I guess it works on multiple levels.

  • But the internet taught me that being cynical is cool! It’s all I know!

  • Did you actually read the article or are you just kneejerk griping based on the title?

It’s a quote from an individual developer - an audio designer - talking about their experiences during Bungie’s layoffs, hence the reference to ‘unrealistic constraints’, but for some reason you seem to be taking it as an opportunity to air your grievances with the overall creative direction?

Maybe you didn’t mean it that way, but I can’t stand it when ‘fans’ lash out at developers as if they’ve been personally wronged. Remember the human.

  • Generous heaped teaspoon of ground coffee into the Aeropress, fill with 90°C water from the kettle, wait 2-5 mins depending on how much time I have, invert over a mug, press, and drink.

Recently treated myself to a manual grinder (Kingrinder K6) instead of buying preground coffee. I don’t think I’m a coffee snob, but my god the difference in taste is huge!

  • Two reasons:

    • Active multiplayer: Yes this is kind of a chicken and egg situation, but people who play online multiplayer want to play the version of the game with the largest community of active players.
    • Roster updates: If you’re a fan of a sports team, you probably want to play using their current active roster. Yes, fan updates are sometimes available for older titles but the latest release will have updated face scans etc.
  • Unity, including Unity Hub and related components, required roughly 21GB of storage, while Godot Engine needed only around 164MB

It really is astounding how bloated Unity has become over the last decade. It was never a lightweight engine, but 20GB+ just to install the editor is nuts.

  • No, it’s closer to The Sims or Animal Crossing - a sandbox you fill with little computer-controlled characters, and then see what happens.

  • Yes, because famously when someone dies all of their money just ceases to exist

  • Article is paywalled.

  • They almost certainly don’t expect people to buy it at this price. They’re putting it out to pasture.

Give it a year or two and they’ll do an announcement that no one is purchasing lifetime licenses so they’re sunsetting the scheme altogether.

  • Sometimes I put only one shoe on and walk around the house, just to feel something different.
